OK, here's how this works. Someone posts a thread like this ne, with a picture (or two) of a car. The rest of us all then think how we'd build it - assuming a *reasonable* level of cost and skill - ie you can't answer "quad turbo LS7 transplant, body dropped and sectioned body" for every one. Lets say £5K or so excluding the cost of the car. Even better if you can post a sketch or photoshop of your ideas. Once everyone's had a pop at the first car - say a couple of days? We call it a day and the thread sinks. So another thread gets started with another car in it. I'm not your dad, and I'm not on a rules trip, but this works a lot better if we stick to one active thread at a time. Only one "build" per person... Right? Sound like fun? Here we go then... Your first builder is a BMW 2000. You can start with the four door if you prefer.

+ For the grubby bits. And that's it, nothing more. I'm not even sure I'd want flash wheels on one of those (e.g. 'alpina' types as fitted to the later CSL jobbies) as IMO that is one of the most beautifully styled cars ever produced. Ever.

de-chromed, de badged, no bumpers. Cut the roof off, square backed carson top, mini indicators as rear lights. Paint it lime green with an orange leather sculpted interior with a billet digi dash and some 21" spinners.
You may as well, doing anything other than motor changes to that would be just as criminal.

Yup, needs to abe a tricky car to chose or its not fun! The obvious thing would just be to restore this one. But this forum thinks outside the box.
I'm thinking a pro-touring style build. BMW V8, throttle bodies, lowered lots, probably some racey style (but road soft) suspension, original interior but possibly a set of late model high back fronts trimmed to match. Probably all black vinyl or beige perhaps? 17" billets would look the part on it, one of the edgy 5 spoke designs around about now. rubber band tyres. I'm thinking of that Focus ST Orange but in reality I probably wouldn't have the nads to paint it that colour, so probably Porsche Guards Red.
The bodywork needs nothing doing. Restore the original chrome.
Probably pushing it to do all that on "about £5K" but could be done on an achievable budget compared to the typical Mk1 Escort rally rep these days...

5-spokes? NO WAI!
That would look pretty gash IMO. Too much 'space' in the wheel design. If you must have 17in rimZ, then 17in Alpina style jobbies like I have on my iS would work so much better, even if it's not quite 'out of the box' enough.

Alpina's too fussy IMO. 5 spokes are nice and clean, would suit the car better. This is the "vibe" although its a Camaro

Well if you're going all 70's Custom Kitch.... block up the rear window and replace with portholes, airbrush a large 'mermaid' or similar on the bonnet, fit axle lamp, etc. etc. ;D

This is the vibe, although its a Camaro Yes but look at the 'chunky' propertions of the camaro, esp round the rear window. Now look at the BMW.... it's all slender, delicate even. What you want is a rim which echoes that. Multiple small spokes would work betterer. What we need here is a potato chopper.

Certainly one of the best looking cars evAr. I propose a straight 6 not a V8 however, for smoothness. A super-modern N/A 3.0 5-series one with valvetronic FTW, plus perhaps a z-axle rear suspension. Leave the outside alone as it is impossible to improve.
