Woohoo. I've just spent the best part of the weekend down the workshop and actually did something. The pinto that i'm putting the cortina is all built up ready to go. The n/s strut top n the escort is all done ( i only started it in july). Escort front springs have had 1 coil removed. Escort rear springs are out and waiting for their new bushes to turn up in the post. Floor pan and inner wings have been fully rust proofed and underseald. All measurements for the cortina's coil over conversion have been taken and sketches are being done as we speak.
Right, that should save me doing anything for another six months then ;D ;D ;D

You converting the front to coil overs or all round What are the advantages for converting to coilovers on the `tina? Congrats on getting the mojo back. Any pics of the progress Mine seems to have lapsed a bit at the minute, partly due to injury and partly due to a Xantia I am breaking blocking my garage. Its totally stripped and the only way I can get rid is by making up a trailer to put it on, to get it out of the garage and then I need to make up an A frame to put a block and tackle on to lift it up so I can back my transporter under to weigh it in As soon as the steel arrives I will make a start What pinto have you been building up for the tina?

I started to think of someone else driving it and it gave me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomache. Plus michelle loves it and she was proper upset when i said about selling it so it looks like its staying.... Again ;D Seth, i think its something to do with the weather, when its all gloomy and wet locking myself away and doing stuff seems to cheer me up whereas in the summer all i want to do is laze around and drink beer.

I am imagining devising some method of crushing it a little at a time using a 6" engineers vice, to make little bite-size crushes until you have eventually baled the whole thing. Then just use an engine hoist to lug it onto one of those ghey 'ERDU' wobbly galv camping trailers from halfords, and whip it round to the local beauty spot for dumping.

I'm going for coilovers all round. It's the only way i think that i can keep it as low as it is and get it to handle and still have the option to raise it up a bit when i need to use it for family hauling duties. I've been looking on a few kit car forums and a few of those guys have done front end conversions and swear by them. The rear end will be trial and error, I don't think anyones done it yet, at least not that i can find. I'll have to weld in a crossmember and strengthen the axle though. Hopefully I'll be able too loose another inch or so at full drop but i'll have to make up some adjustable top wishbones to get some of the front end geometry back.
The pinto's nothing special, just a standard block and injection head. I've had it kicking around for about a year and its gonna live in the escort eventually but i thought it'd be a good testbed for my megasuirt. I want to put a zetec in the cortina but i don't fancy trying to learn to map fuel and ignition from scratch so i thought if i fit the pinto i can convert it to injection and keep the dizzy. Then once i'm confident that the fueling is ok i can work on mappable ignition. Plus i've allways got the option that if it does all go tits up i can just bolt the carb and dizzy back on and keep using it.

No , sod that them little Erde trailers are a personal gripe of mine. I really hate them little fuggas. £300 for a few bits of galvy sheet that struggle with 200KG people should by a propper trailer. I don't know what it is but they really annoy the f*ck out of me. I don't suffer with road rage or any form of displeasure following caravans or anything like that but they really boil my p1ss. Good to have you back by the way has the move gone okay? I had thought of getting a scrap metal skip at home and chopping it up into little bits but I think I will have use for this mini trailer effigy and A-frame at a later date so I might as well lash it up.

I`ve known of plenty of kit cars running cortina fronts with coil overs, just never heard of any cortinas running it. Is it worthwhile trying to turret the rear end to improve matters or would you lose too much space. Or at least fit a panhard rod to the back to take some of the strain off the bushes.
Have you got your megasquirt kit yet. I have been having a bit off practice with my new soldering iron this weekend in preparation of getting mine.

PMSL about ^ I thought it was just me - I laugh so hard whenever I see anyone towing one of them - they bounce so much the wheels are hardly ever in contact with the road - hold sweet FA load wise About as much good as a chocolate fireguard bearing in mind I can get more in the back of the Monza and at least it still drives OK

I am thinking about turrets and a panhard rod but i could easily get carried away and put a complete five link in and at the moment i wanna keep it fairly simple. Its definatly something i would consider doing in the future though. My megasquirt is built up waiting to be fitted. I finished it about six months ago and spent many a fun hour twiddling the knobs and making the dails go up and down but then the novelty wore off ;D It really is a piece of cake too put together although i havent yet got my head around the coding side of things and i've yet to put in the squirt and spark firmware but i'm sure i'll get round to it sooner or later though.

Its definatly goonna be for sale once its done, don't know how much its gonna owe me by then though but one thing is for sure, it wont be the typical 'text book' style mk1 that you can loose at an old skool ford meet

My Mojo is back from it's hols too. I dragged my lazy ass out into the workshop and got cracking on all the unfinished business in there. Yesterday I tidied up, painted all the recently blasted suspension for my 610 and stipped the rear end of all it's trim. And today I'm beginning the major mission of replacing both rear quarters and the back panel. I always find getting out there and tidying my workshop up very thoroughly usually prompts me into actrually working in it. Most of the time it's a sh!thole which doesn't make it a pleasant place to be ;D

Ace work ed! Where do you find a pair of new rear quarters for a 610 then! In my shed ;D I found a new rear bumper in there too! I used to buy quite abit of NOS Datsun parts and still have quite a lot of stuff lying about. I've been hoarding stuff to fix my Datsuns with for quite a long time. For some like my 710 SSS I have almost everything from structural panels like chassis legs and inner wings to out panels and even new glass. Some past pics of my hoarded sh!te....
