Here is my new motor - I absolutely LOVE it!! Can't stop grinning. ;D Its a late model E28, completely standard apart from a towbar which is going and a half decent headunit, which is staying. Few tiny spots of rust to be dealt with and needs a shampoo inside. I think it belonged to a Retro Rider previously, then has passed through a couple of mate's hands before landing with me - well its a keeper for me. Stays nice and dry in my garage at night. I collected it on Saturday and have been cruising around in the sunshine ever since - I can't stop driving it. Its been into work today and will do the same again tomorrow. Its not the quickest car I've ever had (understatement) but its so smooth and handles really well, despite being on standard comfort springs and massive TRX remoulds. I really like the wheels but they'll be changed for something a bit bigger - but still in keeping. Its going to be lowerd slightly on H&R springs and these wheels are on their way from Germany as I type. A cheap find from an E38 7 series. 16inch style 15s which I think look great and are a really great OEM modification, in keeping with the bottletop design. Anyway, I'll post some pics when they're fitted. Can't stay on here all night, gotta sleep so I can drive it again tomorrow!!

Those wheels really suit the car, good choice.

I just cant stop going on about how much I love these old 5 series and 3 series BMWs, absolutely stunning cars! I only have a modern car at the moment but with out a doubt my first retro will be a 20-something year old beemer BMW threads always catch my eye so this one will be getting watched, make sure the updates are picture intensive and regular

I've never had a BMW before but gotta say - now I understand the hype. This thing is really well put together, great to drive and very easy to live with. It's true that they suffer from the worm, but hopefully this is a decent one...

Not much to update on, every time I am free to do any work on it, I end up just taking it out for a drive!! Tow bar is still attached but I've started on some touch ups where surface rust is spoiling the show. Anyway new wheels turned up from the Fatherland so some new rubber and they're on. Had good feedback so far but definitely needs to be a bit lower. Really don't want to spoil the great ride so will probably look out for something like an M535 set up. Here's a snap...

God I miss my old e28, 'twas only a miserly 518i but still one of the nicest old cars I've ever owned, I'd buy another in a heartbeat (if I had some of that money stuff)

I think you'll be surprised at what a fine 'back roads' car these make with a set of lowering springs. That engine is a lot lighter than the 2.8/3.5 and it makes for a sweet drive. Keep us posted with the mods.

Quick update. Was gutted not being able to take this to RRG last week, but the engine work had overrun. Anyway, got a call from the garage Wednesday to say its ready. Picked up the next evening and I am well chuffed! I've had a 2.5 lump fitted which has been completely overhauled. My old 2.0 had lost a fair few horses - the toe bar hinted at a hard life, but with the new motor that's around 170bhp now - so much better to drive! Exhaust and suspension up next. Oh and I've found a black leather recaro interior too - got to treck over to Norwich for it though...

Lovely E28 Tarka. The new wheels look mighty fine and suit it to a tee. The new 2.5 engine sounds much more in keeping the nature of the car. The 1.8 and 2 litre are pretty lame for a car of this size IMO. Keep us posted mate, I'd like to see some interior and engine bay pics if you have any?

Wow - 4 yrs since my last update on this! I have actually made a lot of progress - although it's still a white E28 lol! So - lots of new metal: Passenger A pillar Both entire sills, inner & outer Rear arches Footwells Jacking points With new metal comes new paint. It's now lowered on H&R springs and has finally had the towbar cut off! Never did go with the black leather in the end - instead I got an entire green sports leather interior which I think is epic and really suits the Alpine White. So - here's the latest pics. Just purchased a 635 CSi so will start a new thread for that one. I love the E28 though,so despite the wife's constant badgering - both are staying! Cheers Matt

That's a lovely looking old bus.
My old E28 M535i is one of the cars I most regret selling.

I have to say I do like this. Only BMW I've ever driven was a white 87 e28 that my father in law owned in the late 90s. A really lovely machine to drive. Unfortunately in a moment of madness he traded it in against a Renault Clio. Didn't even give me the chance to buy it off him. Enjoy yours and hope you can keep both.
