Few pics taken at Hamsterely forest, cant remember the year though 94 or 95 I think Just a few of the less common cars One for the Skoda boys, I think this was the first years the Felicia entered I had thought this was the ;ate Richard Burns at first but realised he was driving for Subaru when the felatio`s started competing, so I think it was his old 309 challenge car 3 wheeling 205 I have some pictures of a Carlton GSi competing from this year will post that once I find it ;D

That so takes me back......... For years and years the Lombard RAC rally was my pilgimage every year I'd take 4 days off work with a mate and pile the "mountain bikes" in a hire van and follow the rally round - sleeping in the van at night wherever we could find a place to park up.
If I had a scanner I'd post up the pics of the Monza competing in the grizedale forest on an RAC rally stage I went to.......
I soooo need to buy a nice cheap 6x4 or 7x5 photo scanner cos I used to take loads of pics

I remember several monzas on, I think the `91 RAC rally (whatever the year it was the first one I had been too). Went with Tonyrolacola and it was around 2am when the rally finished and nearly have of the entries were AE86`s.

Scanned a few more now 323 corolla ae92 3 wheeling favorit and the carlton I mentioned, IIRC it was supposed to be an ex taxi I am a bit confused by the wheels looking at it now as the look like the ronals fitted to monza/royales/manta 400`s. I know there was a carlton on ebay a couple of years back running a manta 400 back axle so it possibly the same one but if so it shouldnt have been able to enter the RAC

LOL that year I do remember - went in my first Carlton with a mate just for the weekend slept in the car and got up the next morning and it was an inch of ice on the insides of the windows - thought fark that and bu ggered off up the stage - watched all the cars go by and walked back to the car by that time sun was out but still flipping cold and still an inch of ice on the inside of all the windows!!! Class scrapped it of the side widows with the doors open - HRW sorted out the back window (drawback was a puddle the size of lake windermere on the parcel shelf) and the front window cleared after about half an hour on fast idle in the car park Was all dry by the time we got home tho!!!!

I remember the year of the Formula 2 reign - Wide-arched Méganes and Ibizas...Also one of the last 'true' RACs (pre the international autotest of Wales) which was absolutely FREEZING.
I also seem to remember being in a pub afterwards with the Proton Wira team who were drowning their sorrows...I must have been about twelve.

I remember marshalling at Hamsterely forest and having to push Tiff Needell out of a ditch. It was pretty cold and icy that year actually remember pushing about 40 cars out of the same ditch and near the end the ditch was just like a mud slush puppy. Got a few photos of that year but mainly from the historic RAC earlier in the day. I do have some but none of the socks incident though

I love the Carlos Sainz ST185. loverly. When I had my 185, I wished I gotten the Sainz model, but the standard one was nice enough, just little heavy. Nice to see a 900 being blatted through snow too, and seeing Felicias in factory colours. This is like my 3 alltime favourite marques, all being rallied and caned the hell out of. Strange that my car buying should dictated by rally competitiveness isn't it

Mats Jonsson & Ari Vatanen gotta be 1993. Saab is Ola Stromberg if my memory serves me well. I was 10 and very cold on that event, but I loved every second. Thanks for sharing the pics.

The days before the Nanny State and capitalism beat the RAC into the limp event it is today.
There was nothing better than getting up in the middle of the night, driving 3 hours into mid Wales, tramping through a forest and diving out of the way as the next car came through. Listen for the whistles. Dive into the ditch - on the inside of the bend - and try to get your Pentax 35mm camera to take an action shot!! LOL
I got loads of non car mates into motorsport this way!

^^^ It was the run up to the event as much as anything, get to the stage 5 or 6 hours before it started in the middle of the night, walk through the forest for hours until you found a good vantage point then wait, talking bo11ocks with your mates, freeszing your nads off, until the stage was live ;D. Then trapesing back 4 or 5 mile to the car, freezing cold but in good spirits. Our motor club has lost a lot of members since the RAC (I will always call it that) stopped visiting the north east. There always used to be an influx of members before and after it and it always seemed to breath new life into the club. Now its pretty stagnant
