No. That would be the equivalent of the Mk1. Although perhaps older. It isn't a proper transit. Oh, and so how is this not a 'proper' transit??? Made by Ford? check. Called a Transit? check QED, it's a ford transit. Next thing you'll be setting up a special club, just for Transits built between 12th of december 1985 and 30th April 1987 (STRICTLY ORIGINAL CONDITION ONLY - NO MODIFICATIONS), just like all those other Ford loonies who set up 'splinter clubs' to fight between each other with 5 members each.... Sorry pogweasel. Dear me!! ;D Don't be offended by my approach, all I was saying is that the van in question isn't really regarded as a ford transit (as such). And no, I'm certainly not hear to pick fights with people. I'm hear to settle in. I'm just excited. My keyboard'll fall apart soon!! ;D

No no no... you have the wrong end of the stick. Have you never noticed how much infighting there is betweeen Ford owners clubs? And just what a ridiculous number of clubs there are? And how bothered they all are about what is or isn't a 'proper' escort / capri / whatever... All completely unneccessary, and reminds me of the 'People's Front of Judea' bit in The Life of Brian. Time for this one to get another airing.... See....

Thing is its getting the same way in Modified VW clubs/forums I find. People are being openly mocked for there taste if they don't conform to a certain look. Its why i come on here cos everyone is pretty liberal and easy going, and we rarely ever have arguments.

Cool Eastern Bloc rip off alert. In the same vein as Concordski and the Ruski Shuttle, our cabbage loving friends also produce their own version of the Tranny. Called the Gaz Gazelle, it was the inspiration for Stings famous 1968 hit "Do the Russians Love Their Transits Too?" Pictures:

I love them because they are hideous!! I'd love to turn up at a builders yard in one. Just to get laughed at and then cover them all in unrefined diesel smoke - they probably run on 2 stroke though - even better for smokage.

Never mind about the blown head gasket, we like to put on a show for the punters!!

Hello transitmk3 Indeed I like transits too - they are the working class heros of our highways. Your VW Transporter owning builder is the one with all his risk assessments completed & stickers of the various 'guilds' that he is affiliated with on the back doors - but ultimately beyond his headed note paper he hasn't got a clue. Your Transit driving builder on the other hand seems to be more the 'honest geezer' He'll do your job well & cheaply too - prob cos he hasn't put it through the books ;D Going back abit didn't the original Discovery have Sherpa headlights along with its Marina/Allegro door handles?

Last summer i was feeling rich, trying to decide what to waste my newly aquired inheritance on.
I was VERY close to getting a mk3 transit van, cutting it down pick up style and getting a tube chassis built. Mid mount V8, custom suspension and huge split rims.
Kind of circuit/touring style.
I saw sense in the end, although it really would have been great, i really didnt want to sink tens of thousands into a completely impractical toy ;D
Bought the ghia instead and just frittered the rest away on god knows what!

Hi DerbyDan. Well, from what I've seen, Mk3 Transits are usually driven/abused (or whatever you'd like to call it!! ;D) by gypies, rogue builders, general self-employed handymen, and, it has to be said, scruffs. ;D What an miserable existance for a poor old van!! Thanks for the welcome.

^ There's a cool Mk5!! ;D www.nsva.co.uk/ford_supervan_page.htm"(Supervan 2) was clocked at Silverstone doing 174mph. Ten years later and DRL Engineering of Suffolk undertook a complete re-build of Supervan 2 and, fittingly, it was decided to re-name the vehicle Supervan 3." It's re-faced Supervan 2! Love THAT transit ;D

I think they should have kept Supervan 2 and made Supervan 3 seperately. They could be in a museum together now!
