I loved project bottle rocket, I bought a Skoda Rapid as my first car in 1994 when i was 17, I must have read that feature 100 times! I wanted to do so much to my car, but being a student, not much happened. Ahh, the memories... I always wondered what its fate was.

Memories are made of this.... ;D ;D ;D
This takes me right back to when i was 16-17. I agree with what everyone else said about street machine back in the day. Fantastic. Like Rmad says though, not many people really shared that vision, shame really. I remember the issue with the citroen ami's and the one with the wacky 2cv pickup from france. I remember taking that one into college and asking everyone what car they thought it was. No one got it, most people thought it was a beetle. I remember a spate of purple cars too. A viva, a kadett and that classic capri that turned up on ebay a while back. I wish i still had all those back issues but for some reason street machine used to fall apart as soon as i got it then. I've still got every issue from when rich nicholls took over and they've all got their pages too. Must be because they didnt get read as much ;D ;D

See now for some reason I missed this whole era of Street Machine... I think i was too busy obsessing over 'obvious' old motors at that stage.
I'm regretting it now of course..... If I'd known how to really do a skoda properly when I had one on a plate would have been so much cooler.

I was a [glow=red,2,300]huge[/glow] fan of street machine in those days and project bottle rocket was superb, everybody (in a general public kinda way) thought skodas were naff but that just showed what could be done with a little imagination. I've still got all my copies boxed up in my parents loft and I wan't to get them down and have another look now

Can anyone remember the street machine Mazda pick up? Mint green?, slammed, alloys and lots of ice, used to see it about in Kings Lynn a lot years ago.

Yeah big up Street Machine I shared the vision and picked it up now and then, but as a student for a lot of my post 17 years i couldnt afford a cool car, and there were few pages in the mag in later years. Wish i'd bought more though, i'd have subs if it was still out, and really embrace the DMC theory. things are possible on a budget, with some creativity. its running the damn things that costs! Wheres those pictures?!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

/\ Ratdat's car on the cover in its first guise! Always thought it odd that they featured it twice..... Prob coz it wnt into the hands of a new owner, my mate Mark, who then resprayed it and fitted wires. Now sold on and has disappreared, like so many other feature cars. The ex-SM mint Mazda mini was stretched into a crewcab, bodydropped and repainted blue by its new owner, unfortunately its never seen the light of day and has languished in a garage for years since being finished.

I've been thinking of building a Project Bottle Rocket style car for a while now, i even have the full build up in Street Machine. I've also got a Rapid sat in my lock up awaiting some inspiration.

Great days they were, I don't know why SM didn't survive. In its heyday I lived just down the road from Pete Darwells place (Mechspray) and used to drool over some of the motors he'd have in for spraying, ah the golden days of Metalflake and Candy.

bottle rocket inspired me to go out and buy a 130 rabid, then do absolutely nothing with it, except flog the tits off it with a great big sh1t eating grin on my face. ;D dmc had so much potential, but for me turned into a complete waste of time and effort.imo. you guys in the south must have got more dole than us northern monkeys back then, cos i couldnt even build a decent push bike on the money i got off the nash.
