I haven't been posting for a few days. I got a little exasperated by the board's increasing tendency (in my own perception, at least) to instinctively react to [pics] threads with 'I don't like this car because...'. It came to a head in this thread (which, to be honest, doesn't feature *that* much negativity, but was one of many that week that irked me); subsequent comments included: You post A LOT on here. Not everyone will like everything. Because you drop a lot of cars in here, I'd try not to take it personally if there are mixed comments. Well, you post up a lot of cars, and you post up a lot of modern 'scene' cars that are often built to elicit a response, so you can't be that suprised when the modern controversial car elicits a response on retro rides. ...which is all very well and makes perfect sense, but the point I was getting at was that it's becoming the norm for people to immediately reply with 'those wheels are wrong' or 'that's the wrong engine' or 'why have they done [x], it looks rubbish'; obviously people aren't going to like every car here and it would be arrogant of me to expect them to. But there's a difference between debate/discussion and just rubbishing everything instinctively. And then a user in this thread described my and others' reactions to the continuing negativity on the board as a 'circlejerk', which led to this from our benevolent leader: Is this a self-congratulatory circlejerk, or a forum for car enthusiasts A little from column A a little from column B ... it has been running for 8 years, there is a reason that it is run the way it is, it seems to be working so far. I'd rather get ridiculed for being a forum that is far too positive than to be any of the other car forums on the web. Nail. On. Head. After much thought I've decided that, sod it, it really doesn't matter either way. It's only the internet, innit? So let's put all the nonsense behind us and look at a cool old car. Because that's what we do. Can I get a clicky? Clicky. Ah yes, there we are.

Just love Smoothed bays on MK1/2 escorts. Very nice indeed.

I wasn't aware I'd ever been involved in a circle jerk, can add that to my list of sexual experiences obviously. :/ That's fresh though, looks factory sat in the bay.

That engine bay makes me sad, purely for the fact I know I'll never get mine to look like that

I guess people are torn between looking at the pictures and saying nowt, and have the poster think that no one cares, or voicing an opinion, whether it matches their own personal taste or not, rock and a hard place if you ask me, but that escort is awesome ;D

Once more we bask in the fantastic picture ferreting skills of dbizzle. I don't comment much on anything but really appreciate your mojo boosting pictures.
Thank you dbizzle.
PS - I loved that Golf.
PPS - Another forum I'm on is so full of negative it hurts. It's always easier to say something negative. As I tell my kids, 'if you've nothing nice to say, say nothing'. Constructive criticism is OK, we'd all like to put our favourite wheels on or paint it a certain colour. If you really don't like something, build something to better it.

Oooh delicious drama. One thing I have noticed is that a lower rate of new threads in the general board has led to some more interesting discussion. Maybe less is more On which note that is a very nice Escort. Must be a proper piece of exotica in America!

Ive posted up pics from local shows, spent ages picking out the good pics, editing them etc. and only a couple of people leave a comment, and thats usually Dbiz! I would sooner have my thread provoke some sort of responce, than nothing at all tbh, providing people keep things reasonable.

Of course, but the thread would soon get tedious if all that was ever posted was good comments, and I would likely get no work done, for replying to threads about awesome cars

What have I missed here? Is that a 1300GT with a Duratec or is the Duratec a Frankenstein motor with a 1300 CVH (or similar) bottom end ala the opposite of the CVH turbos with 2 litre Zetec bottom ends. It would make a proper screamer of a 1300 with that monster head on it if it was.

Of course, but the thread would soon get tedious if all that was ever posted was good comments, and I would likely get no work done, for replying to threads about awesome cars ... and thus your reveal our nefarious plan! I've had threads I'm really proud of disappear without so much as a single comment, which nonsense threads about "is my car retro" get 20 or 30 responses... makes me mad/sad.

Although your idea sounds more fun...

I like that a lot. Very tidy install. (Hadn't appreciated that Duratecs are that way round either.)
Sounds good too..

The circlejerk comment wasn't about negativity, it was about this policy of removing negativity - i.e. basically ONLY providing positive feedback so even curse word mods got praise. Or ignored But not my forum, if I want arguments I'll go back to usenet. What amused me there was not that say, a mod dived in and removed my comment, but a small number of people basically relished the opportunity for a (fairly poor, by the standards I'm used to) flamewar to have a go at me, thus doing exactly what the negative comment policy is supposed to prevent and prolonging the thread's existence. Like that Escort a lot. But I have seen Mk 1s on Minilites many times - in fact I've a suspicion my 1300 Sport had Minilites on. It was very cool. No, wait, very COLD, on account of the air coming through the remains of the floor. Still, I'd kill to have it back now, it'd be worth enough to be worth paying someone to weld
