For the last month or so on and off,i've been helping out getting a mates 1300 nova ready for the start of the mull rally tommorow.
Last year he managed to get a 3rd in the 1400 class so this year we're hoping for an even better result.
At the start of the year he was cosidering fitting a 1400 twin cam in it out of a corsa but decided to spend big bucks on a close ratio dog box instead and keep with the old trusty for the time being.
What a difference that made! The car's only geared for about 100 MPH but jesus does it get there quick!
Since then it's also been to the bogg bros at york about 3 months ago and had these carbs replaced:-
with these off a honda fireblade:-
and gained 10 more horses(100 at the wheels)and drives smooth from tickover to flat out.
The last main jobs have been fitting a new sump guard which takes a minute to get off instead of half an hour and also swapping the old spot lamps:-
in favour of these beastys!
Gas discharged xenon lights using top spec BMW igniters and control units kindly supplied by the local BMW guy!
It cost about 500 quid for the new lenses and fitting kits but the rest of the parts we did a deal for and made the beemer guy a lamp pod for his BMW estate road car which he's using as the chase car and fitted it for him.
Most of the rally is in the dark,so these have got to give a major advantage over the other lamps.
When we tested them out for the first time i was gob smacked at how bright they are.
Could this be the first nova with WRC spec lights on? ;D ;D
These pics show the new offset sump guard rear mounting points which make it a lot easier to get off than the bag o' wibblepoo that was on it before.
Apologies for the last few pics.I was under both the car and the trailer at the time! ;D
