Looking for advice from the good folk here as I'm guessing this must have happened to others My daily has been running poorly for a while and I've been trying to pin down what's wrong. Just over 2 weeks ago, found someone with a load of useful spares on Ebay, including everything I need to rebuild / replace / repair the engine, box, and suspension on mine ;D As it's not a popular car, I scored for a bargain and won the auction for less than about scrap value ;D Since then I've lost count of how many emails I have sent asking when it's convenient to come down with a mate and collect the lot. So far : Seller was "away" the first weekend after I won. Late yesterday, I got an email saying I could collect 9 am today (Saturday) (it's 150 mile round trip so I would have to sort our animals at 6am to start driving at 7am ) - not practical. Today they emailed to say "maybe one night next week" - no more info. Final score after 2 weeks? Lots of requests from me trying to get it sorted, very few replies from them, and only 1 offer (at short notice) of when I could collect. They still haven't given me an address or phone number - despite me asking lots of times. I've been out of work (so loads of spare time) since I won the auction. My daily is now off the road - I'm sure it's headgasket time as I got thru' 4 gallon of water in 50 miles last time out but I don't want to spend time & cash fixing as the new bits I've bought should do that & more. I'm off work next week then things get hectic and I've no idea if/when I'll get a spare day to go collect after that. I have the use of a mates workshop so could sort the engine there anytime since I won or next week, if I can't collect before next weekend I won't have time to get to his garage = big problems doing any work. Hopefully this is taken the way it's meant - a request for ideas or suggestions on how I can collect & fit the new bits in the next few days. It's not meant as a rant (tempting tho' it is) As thanks I offer www.patinaproof.blogspot.com/If the pics show up oddly let me know - I tried to lay them out differently - hoping it works

I think it would be time to contact fleabays resolution centre if the seller isn't playing ball. I think it might be the only way.
What is it and where is it? Maybe someone here can help a bit?

Where's the stuff dude? Got a thread in Pony express? Check their ebay and make sure it's not been relisted in the hope of getting more money (this one has happened to me). What's the car? do tell! Rob

Where's the stuff dude? Got a thread in Pony express? Check their ebay and make sure it's not been relisted in the hope of getting more money (this one has happened to me). Thanks for the thoughts, replies in no particular order... Ebay always seems to allow at least a week for responses, if I can't collect it early next week I won't have time to get it fixed before I get hectic. It's a full engine & box (pulled from a working car 3 weeks ago) that should bolt into the Hunter. The problem isn't Pony Express or getting someone here to collect it, it's that the seller won't give me a time when it can be collected (hope it makes sense) Not been relisted but good point ! "The Plan" was to win it (done that), collect ASAP (failed miserably), and take it to my mates garage so I can swap it before I run out of time (next weekend). I'm in County Durham, seller is in Skipton according to Ebay (not confirmed by seller yet), and I'm possibly moving to Northumberlnd in a weeks time to start a job up there. It's a 150 mile round trip from where I am now (not a problem) but it will be more like 300 after I move The seller has very few Ebay trades but feedback so far is good, being generous either they have a busy life and are never at home (possible), don't rate Ebay stuff as a priority (possible), or don't realise the delay is causing me big problems (I'll email them today to make sure they know why I'm pushing to collect asap) Keep the suggestions coming, it's all appreciated

Request his contact details through ebay. You'll get his address and phone number and in return he'll get yours... I find difficult sellers become a lot more helpful once you let them know you know where they are... and a phonecall can do wonders when emails have failed. pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/know-seller-contact.html

Hmm,
I would say either they are not very computer literate (although they've managed an ebay auction) or they're not very entertained with letting the stuff go for the final auction price.
Now if your a man of principle (I'm not) then you might not want to offer them a few quid extra but when I have won stuff I really wanted for below scrap value in the past I have sent an e-mail saying something along the lines of this:
"I know I won this really cheap, I'd actually be happy to give you an extra *** when I pick it up"
In an effort to prevent the seller from developing a CBA attitude and just dumping the stuff in the bin.
I would like to add that I have no idea how that might affect your rights if it becomes a dispute with ebay etc. I can also understand how a lot of people would say that's not how it should work but it's got me a result when I really needed it a couple of times, although I usually make the offer straight away for example when I won some wheels and tyres I was desperate for, for a tenner due to the sellers terrible spelling.
Other than that if they're not forthcoming with an address and phone number I really don't know what you can do. Talking on the phone can often really reassure people but if they won't give you contact details then you're stuffed.
I would say that about 90% of the people I've dealt with in the retro / classic car world have been exceptionally nice, but in the remaining 10% there have been some odd balls and some real......... well, you know!

Winning bid was about £25 for the engine & box ("running fine when removed" - which in my past experience can mean "needs a rebuild"), it may be a bargain - maybe not Seller has offered suspension & bits as extras if I want them but I'm not planning on taking them. Pic shows the engine & box out of the car so I'm guessing it's now in his shed / garden / lockup, no more work needed - just take my money and let me load it up. As it's a base model Hillman it's not a "must have" collectors item hence the low price (I'm guessing it's about what it would get for scrap - but without having to do any work ) Have emailed explaining why I'm keen to collect asap - see if it helps Good idea about requesting his contact details, only problem is him getting mine in case I start getting "unexpected" deliveries & calls

Isn't there address given to you in the order details?
Keep everything going via eBay.. At least you can fall back onto that if it goes pear shaped. (even more so)

Isn't there address given to you in the order details? As I'm the buyer, the only thing I can find is "request total" option - that has my details listed for "Delivery address" but only their Ebay-ID in the "Seller" info No sign of their contact details

Usually they take them down if is only the one starting bid and a few hours to go by taking the 'Item is no longer available' option. Happened to me today on a Garrett T2 turbo I was the only bidder on for £0.99p. Why the hell people don't start the item at their lowest price I don't know..... I would have been prepared to pay more..... not my fault no one wanted to bid against me. Here's the listing.... cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140696912451

It's also happened to me in the past. I won a used Alpine CD headunit for £7. Amazingly, he emailed me and said the unit had been dropped on the floor and he refunded me the money. I didn't bother questioning it but knew what he was doing. If they have a price in mind, put a reserve on it. They seem to just assume there will be hundreds of bids but Thiefbay doesn't always work like that.

Starting bid was £20 and somebody bid that days before it ended, I upped it by a few quid and got it just under £25 Seller had enough sense to put their "lowest bid" as a £20 starting price which worked fine, no complaints there. They're not telling me I can't have it, it just feels like drawing teeth - slowly - trying to get them to communicate & arrange things. Have emailed explaining my cars off the road with a dud engine and I'm moving house next week to start a new job. Hopefully it will wake them up

Good luck, I hope the latest mail helps.
TBH, I see what you are saying, £25 seems fair for an unknown engine really, I've seen plenty of the less desirable A series sell for a few quid like that.
Fingers crossed for you mate,
Rob

" I've used it a few times with decent results. For "popular" stuff, it gets lots of folk into a bidding war / feeding frenzy (hopefully) Or just to clear the cupboards, tat will find it's own value and it saves me taking it to the charity shop or tip But yes, I've been the only bidder on a few oddball things, only for them to get taken down near the end AFAIK Ebay won't let anyone cancel a sale in the last 24 hours (unless they changed the rules recently)

I have to say that for rare parts and the like I do deviate from my 99p NR approach. I sold a load of FD Vauxhall stuff and started that at £9.99 or £19.99 or £4.99 or whatever. Most of it had one bid. eBay is full of numpties. We know this. its annoying. Some are buyers, some are sellers. I saw a half decent Merc 230E sell for like £450 needing some work but the guy then gets feedback "Seller demanded £850 for the car despite me winning it for less" I'd have had it for £450 but not £850. Some people think they'll get a mint for any old tat just because its some eBay magic. I suspect the seller in this tale CBA for £25. TBH I'm not sure I would be arsed for that. humping engines and boxes about for chump change is an . However, he shouldn't have listed it if he didn't want do deal with it.
