- We've all done it - too many projects, too much background distraction....... too eager to get back on the road. I finished the welding on the 2500S and thought I'd take her around the block for a long overdue dose for my Triumph-itis. My girlfriend wanted to jump in too - support n all that. All OK until the second corner and my girlfriends ends up en route to the back seat..... Normally not to be argued with - but she was still buckled up. BOZO HERE - had forgotten to tighten down the seat bolts after replacing the floorpan! Come on - admit it - what did you forget to tighten, finish, fit! John

i admit i forgot to put a clamp on my old race imps silencer, whilst out on a roadtest on the local racetrack dual carriage way the silencer decided to part company at 60mph,fine by me,it couldn't get any louder anyway, but the guy in the brand new saab behind was weaving like mad to avoid this madly bouncing cheery bomb,he went left ,the box went left,he went right so did the box, ended up missing him by barely inches.i had slowed down but decided to leave the scene pronto ,so i shot off,and hid my car on the opposite side of the road while i ran over and retrieved it, stashed it and went home ,keeping and eye out for mr saab.needless to say it got bolted on very very tight. ;D

Whilst on work experience I forgot to bolt a wheel on. Lad I was working with put his on finger tight as I did mine with the air gun. He said have you put those bolts in and thinking he meant mine I said yes unfortunately he meant his DOH!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I spent 3 months building a Westfield with a mate. We'd finished more or less and were trying to get the engine running. It wouldn't. One bright spark friend asked if we'd considered putting some fuel in the tank........

Ha ha, when I was a mechanic the second job I was given was to swap the engine in a Fiat Tipo TD, it had popped and so I had to fit another from a salvage yard. I did it on my own, it took fuggin ages and was a right tw@t. Anyway I got it all together and went for a razz, I got about 4 miles and then it died. I tried to start it but it would not go – turns out I had forgotten to tighten one key component, the fuggin crankshaft pulley nut! the pulley had moved, spoilt the cam timing and bent half the valves. WHAT A C0CK

I worked in a Fiat dealer where the apprentices were always mucking up, we had one lad putting a towbar on a new Tipo, he put on the bar ok, and was doing the lights, he decided to raise the car up on the lift to work underneath it, forgot to close the boot door, remembered it when it hit the workshop door frame and it broke in half...fibreglass boot on Tipos.

about 10 years ago, when i had a manta 400 rep, i was topping the oil up. got distracted and forgot to put the filler cap back on. cih rocker covers usually have a plate inside the filler, but mine didnt. so 3 miles into my journey the oil pressure dropped to zero and the light came on. i pulled over to find oil sprayed everywhere. what a d1ck. least the engine bay never got any rustier. ;D

Not me but a mate of mine forgot to tighten the front wheel nuts on my parents Bedford CF. We got about 5 miles from home when it started clonking. My mate who was a trainee mechanic got out and couldn't see anything wrong. We set off gingerley again got up to about 25 mph as the van dropped to the hub and the wheel flew off and ended up about 100m away in a field.
I fairly calmly said 'I think that was the problem'
He works with computers now. ;D
