One of these beauts.... My brother had one that his parents in law bought new in '84 on a B plate. I bangered it in '91 at the Gatwick track when it was just seven years old, it was that good. Only way we could get the #$@!!$ thing running for the race was to wire the auto choke fully on.... Made it nearly to the end of the Destruction Derby. Then I noticed there was just me and the P5 and the granny. Got picked up by the P5 for a whole lap until I slammed into half a dozen abandoned cars, which spun me round. Fired it up again to a cheer from the crowd, and went head on with the P5, with the granny following in for good measure (they were in the same team). The engine was trying to come through the bulkhead to sit on my lap. I think it was one of the worst cars I've known of, though it proved to be tough as old boots on the track...

At least it did one thing in style then - die! I always remember the Top Gear review of that. Oooh yea, stylish.... ".....the sound of a Polish cog, snicking into another Polish cog"

RWD! Are they fiat/lada based? Fiat Twink powered FSO anyone Yep they are RWD, if you watch that Clarkson vid carefully you can see the propshaft/diff when they are hanging up! I would have one, can't be any worse than a Lada/Allegro and both of those have been superb ;D Finding a MOT'd one must be nigh on impossible though, if one comes up E-bay I will purchase it

Yes I did make it a bit of a mystery by forgetting to mention the make/model It is indeed an FSO Polonez, this one had a 1500cc engine, rwd, with leaf springs at the rear and a live axle, oddities for such a crude car included all round disc brakes. There was even a sump guard, evidence of it's rally heritage I guess, it had a 5 speed box as well. It's based on a Fiat 125, although I've never seen one of these....
