you may remember the vauxhall calibra thread recently. DarrenW mentioned about a Salt Flat syled one, at which point i realised a Nascar rep would work so well. I have long wanted to build a nascar rep. speaking with Tash the other day she suggested using a probe. I dismissed the idea. However, after dp posted about Bassett Wheels i see they do them in ford probe fitment, and upon checking ebay ford probes go for peanuts. so - the benz will have a new 12 month ticket by the end of the week and i have every intention of selling her and picking myself up a ford probe and some bassett wheels ..... so - what do i look out for with these? aren't they pretty much made with mazda parts? what options did they come for? whats top spec engine? what do i/don't i want? cheers chappies

I've not actually seen ANY tuning bits for any of the Mazda lumps:/
I was thinking about a supercharged MIVEC 2.0 V6 out of an FTO the other day though...

These cars seem to attract a particularly freakish kind of middle-aged barry. Check this sig pic robbed off a UK probe forum! Pure class. And...... Steve UKPOC Member WroteSimonV6 UKPOC Member WroteFinally: Shame - I quite like the styling in original 'un-bo11oxed' format.

Salt-flats style would be teh win fo' sho'.
I think they are Mazda-based. The V6 is no slouch apparently, but like Bo11ox sez they attract a bizarre breed of Barry. Still, make it different enough and it'd rock!

they crash well
the old man did a 720 into an M6 crash barrier in the wet and walked away (hes had 2)
he got bog all for it when he changed it
don't do it worth nowt buy an mx 6 instead - wrong wheel drive too but the V6 is nice don't bother with the 2.0
the pic of cheeseman is the reason they never sold many

They are the same engine as the MX6 but as I recall from the Performance car comparison at the MX6 had more torque and was a much smoother engine. I prefer the looks of the probe though. Engines are generally reliable as long as they are serviced.
My ownly experience of one of those engines was in my wifes MX3 and that was the 1.8 V6 24V. Very smooth engine that revved very well for a 6. Pretty nippy and good handling but not super quick. Engines were a pig to work on though as they are really shoehorned into the engine bay.

You can get bolt on turbo kits imprted from the states for pretty cheap. Make big power with one of those!
I've always fancied one absolutely slammed on some nice wheels with a carbon bonnet and a v6 turbo underneath
