They are very heavily Mazda based, which is no bad thing but for some reason a lot of the 2-litres are smokers (You get this with 90`s 626s if they have the 2.0 engine) - you`ll either find that it doesnt smoke at all (fine), kicks smoke out on start up (quite a bit too) but clears when warm (valve stem oil seals, not the end of the world, will run for years) or you`ll find that it just absolutely belches and belches blue smoke out and turns the area into 1950`s London during a "pea souper" - which is probably piston rings, therefore bad. The only trouble is if the car has had a really good run this wont betray itself straight away, you need to know what the engines like from a cold start, and if there is any smoke just how much and how long it takes to clear. Also drive the car to determine if there is any loss of power, 2.0 should pull really well if they are in good health. A good, tested engine from a breakers was £400 when I last needed one, probably a bit less now. The funny thing is, the V6 version seems to be one to watch for burning oil as well and this is all very strange considering the smaller 323 and MX-5 engines just run and run and run forever... Also distributors can be spiked by the factory fitted alarm sytem, if the car seems to run like its running out of petrol all the time reckon on a distributor, not easy to find and about £80 from scrapyards. Check tailgate struts as well, they are nearly always shot and the heavy tailgate can be lethal if the gas struts have gone and the thing comes thundering down on your neck while you check out the spare wheel.

thanks for the info, thats a great help.
I'm not sure if a salt flat theme would be better than a nascar one. salt flats just seems a bit 'done'. no doubt it would work tho

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Worst back seats evAr invented - the leg room is literally ---><--- that big. It's comical - so don't go thinking it's a GT cruiser or nowt. But I like them - the V6's are nice enough and the leather is cool.
The 24v's have the coolest turbine wheels of any ford up to the Focus ST.

Not a single bean of offence taken BTW, just curious as ever! everyone has their own opinions and likes/dislikes thank God! Spotting a silver sapph in tescos carpark is not easy actually, i put it down to a design that saw into the future somehow. you'd notice the 3 door when its finished Probes totally look 90's but i like that, and that FWD could be handy with a dangerous long winter on its way...
