As some of you know I bought this off the bay a few weeks ago: I recognised it from an article in Classic + Sportscar a few years ago. At the time it had had one owner from new and looked mint, and the same guy was selling it on ebay as owned it in the article. I decided it was worth a punt and bought it on the strength of these bitty photos for £300. Now it is at JonCedrics place and it looks like this: Looks pretty shonky really. I could have bought a much better one for the money this one now owes me (£450). What do you do? I plan to get it MOT’d anyway and get some use out of it, JonC is going to tackle the MOT repairs and get it running OK and we’ll take it from there. Apparently the ‘B44DRP’ reg no was specially selected by Audi UK (its first owner) due to it being a 4x4. I suspect it might have been their original demonstrator from when the 200tq was launched, if anyone has any 1984/5 Autocars or similar mags with a UK road test of the 200 I’d be mega interested to see if it’s this car. Anyway there we are. Apparently the steering wheel is in a bad way, anyone know what other Audis could donate an interesting steering wheel?

Hmm. Get a ticket on it and smoke about in it for a year.... then pray to god you can find someone else pervy enough to buy it off you for a tidy sum based on it's provenance. Advertising it in C&SC with lots of waffle about it's history will more than likely turn up someone with more money than sense

You got it pog... thats my best hope I think. I'm looking forward to getting some T-cut on it anyway.
As for a negging, i gave him a pos. I did ask him some questions during the auction but never got any replies, but decided to bid anyway. I still had heard nothing from the guy 3-4 days after the sale so I rang him up and he was unaware the sale had even finished! Not the most skilled 'bay user. He was a decent honest chap and helpful too, so fair enough.

I second that! Although financially it might be totally irresponsable...

Nice MoTAH! Remember when I used to see many of these Audis in the early 90's smashed up on the German Autobans on Bank holiday days (not the time to travel on a German Autoban ...people used to just come to 'race'!). As for condition of car you've bought remember a 'Magazine feature' or 'vehicle of Fame' of previous years will not always mean a perfect example at present time. A case of this ironically is one of my Mini's I used to own that was on the 'Show scene' in the early 90's (including concours wins and feature in Magazines, books and a video) I discovered was 'broken up' 3months ago by the owner I sold it to back in '93! ...he bought it (he had a small colllection of Leyland cars), parked it up and then never really did much to it in 13 years (never even drove it out of his premises in all that time ! ?), so thus you can imagine 13 years of standing did it the amazing world of Good! . £450 ... I think you did very well. As we all know time and aging spare nothing and nobody

Well, its a shame its not in such a great state but I reckon you've only paid 50 odd quid too much TBH. Arch doesn't look terminal and a big hammer will help that valance no end.
You need a steering wheel from something like an S2, a V8 or one of the higher spec 100s. Try Audi4U in Bridgewater - they break 80s / 90s Audis. 01278434121, very friendly and knowledgeable.
This 200 has probably got Procon 10 instead of airbags so all of the above should be the same.
Hopefully the motor and running gear will be in decent nick - you have to be a bit of a traveller to damage an old Audi internally...

Its done about 140k and has a full history apparently so mechanically should be decent. I am looking forward to trying it out anyway, I am a big fan of these old buses.

You could try Central VW/Audi in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. One of the brothers who does (or did) part own this place ran one of these a few years ago, think he`d had some sort of Quattro turbo engine fitted to his. In fact I`m pretty sure he had a few of these and they certainly know their stuff at Central. I believe one of their claims to fame is building the fastest street Beetle in Britain (which lives just down the road from me). Anyhow if you do speak to them I think it was Tim who owned the 200 Turbos, though the other brothers are good lads too.

I wouldn't be disappointed by that at all, £450 sounds all good. Sure the initial appearance compared to the pics is a shame, but hey I still reckon you're onto a winner. As for the history? Great news, get on to Audi in a year or so and sell it back to them like I did with my Subaru, they'll love it...

An Audi with loads of power, 4WD, half leather, electric seats with memory and enough gadgets to make 007 jealous, i wouldn't be too upset for £450.

Yeah - don't feel so down Have been looking at these on Ebay.de and nice ones - abiet with high mileage, are fetching easily 3000 euros. RHD ones must be very rare - with the facination by the VAG group car fans on mainland EU of all things quirky; RHD, MPH speedos etc, might mean that if you advertise it in the right places could easily see you getting your money back?....... perhaps Lovely cars though
