Saw these pics on VZI: I don't understand them at all. I can't work out the logic behind the ride height and stuff... BUT I think a Lexus or 80s S-Class or Scorpio or Vitara done in that way would be, err, interesting. Just a random thought for the morning ;D

Apparently its to do with the Meths/alcohol powered dragsters of yesteryear. They made them high up to try and improve weight transfer. (i think thats right)

well gassers are pump gas are they not?
the stance is to get weight transfered onto the rear wheels at launch, to ensure traction is maximised

Yeah probably is pump gas makes sense.
I thought it was the idea of better weight transfer for improved traction. Function over form. Suppose it was an old skool simple way of doing it using what limited resources they had.

IT'S WHAT THEY THOUGHT WOULD BE BEST IN THE 60'S!!!
Chassis, tyre and suspension technology was a lot more primitive then than it is today.

the rear would need to be fairly soft, but you wouldnt want it too soft so it bogs or bottoms.
i guess that set up isnt used much cos of how suspension and rear ends of race cars have developed. It obviously works though, look at cars like goldrush who still race and win. the negative is getting the front wheels up, you want the car to hook up and go and wheels up isnt good for nailing top times. it looks the daddies tho!!

I'd love to sit in one as it full on launches of the line and lifts the front wheels.

Cool.
I've suddenly realised that they look a bit like "donks" only with smaller front wheels ;D

It was to put all the weight over the rear wheels to aid traction during launch. Tyres were nowhere near as good as they are now, so they had to do what they could. If you haven't seen a gasser launch off the line, go and watch. there is nothing like seeing 'Honky Tonkin' going down the strip.
