I think engine note is very important to the overall aesthetic appeal of a vehicle. I must say, I agree with all thr choices. All very individual sounds. For me, the choices would be, in no specific order... * Big block Chevrolet CanAm racer on fuel injection and open exhausts - a biblical noise! * BRM V16, circa 1950 - an unreal screaming throbbing wail that sounds incredibly complex and brutally loud. * Jaguar XJR-9 - a 7-litre, supertuned Jag V12, belting out about 850bhp through near-open exhausts, spitting and snarling on the over-run before piling on the power out of Druids, Brands Hatch, circa 1990. That will always live with me! ;D * A standard Imp. Nice, fruity, raspy sound. Surprisingly throaty. * This... videos.streetfire.net/video/98e1e0d7-14a3-4bd1-9c05-98420102bbbd.htmI have listened to this at least twice every day since I discovered it! And I own one!! Pant-creaming stuff. I'm

www.f1-fansite.com/sound/Brm_v16.mp3OH my i forgot about this, its actually giving me goose bumps right now, that blower whine and super high rpm. MMMMMMmmmm and acutally Hhhnnngngnggnn aswell. They didnt just change the firing order on the yamaha, they change the crank angles so its not a 180 degree split anymore. They have made it into a 72 degree split or something mental like that! Ill do some research J

yeah, i know they did much more than change the firing order, but i remember reading/hearing something saying that the key reason it sounded so different was due to the firing order being altered. on the vid Ed is behind, I'm alongside at the front sadly theres no vids when it was running sweet and pulling high 10's/low 11's

I want one in my 360... you can buy adapter plates from Sweden so they bolt up to the 'redblock' bellhousing pattern... just the rest of it is a curse word ;D

A Scooby sounds like an Alfa boxer lump. Not surprising considering that Subaru effectively copied the Alfa design. I never did find out why an Alfa boxer 'crackles' on the over-run Not convinced about that - IIRC Subaru made flat-4's before Alfa! Do agree with you about Fiat Marea though - I had a 5-cyl one as a company car for a few months and loved the sound of it.

Do agree with you about Fiat Marea though - I had a 5-cyl one as a company car for a few months and loved the sound of it. Subaru beat Alfa to using liquid cooled boxer engines, but they were pushrod lumps. Alfa introduced their boxer in 1971 with OHCs, at around the same time they introduced the Alfetta complete with inboard brakes and torsion bar suspension...... which Subaru also introduced, at the same time. It may be co-incidental, but if anyone was doing the copying, it wasn't Alfa.
