Just wondered if anyone's got any experience of trying to get one? How do I organise it/go about getting one? I'm looking at possibly maybe bidding on this It's CT has only just run out...just wondering if it'll be worth it. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom Fifi

i know all about that!
Its just like a UK MOT, except that they tell you whats wrong and its up to you whether you sort it out or not!
It costs about €60 BTW

yeah its dead simple. Hows your french? Cos after the test, the geezer is obliged to talk you through the defects he's found (le procés-verbal). I struggle with that bit cos I don't know any of the technical words beyond 'balljoint'! I just know my head and say "Hmm, aye, well, WTF? zOMG!!111!!...." etc.

Fifi,
Know anything about 2CV vans? (fourgonettes) know anything about 2CV's in general, stupid quiestion i know but they are quite different to normal cars in some ways. Firstly, some things that pass a french CT will definitly not pass a UK MOT (if you wanted to bring it back here that is) Secondly they are body on chassis construction and quite often the chassis can be collapsing and rusty. I'm assuming this is a 602cc engined one, the smaller ones are very slow and tricky to get bits for. If you need more info PM me.

Forget the last bits, its obviously a 602cc engine with it being an AKS400.

Stinkwheel, I know nothing whatsoever...just looking for something that runs, then I'll take it as it comes! ;D

Fair enough, but how much is it? People forget that there is a big following and national owners club for these over here. A rough van can cost a fair bit these days and then cost the same again to make it useable and nice-ish.
If you were buying over here expect to pay between 1000-1500 for something tatty but useable with 2CV front. Little less if dyane front version. If its a nice one pay between 1600-2500 if above that its gonna be getting to the really nice scale of things. I know plenty of people who have spent 600 quid on a van in france just to spend the same again to make it pass a UK MOT.
I'm not doom mongering, these things can be tricky, buy with eyes open. they can rust everywhere and a bodged tidy up could ruin it forever.
They are HUGE fun though, learn to drive it properly though, flat out everywhere plunging away with the umbrella handle gearshift :-)
I know a man who builds race engines for them if you need to know.

On thing Friends have discovered where Controle Technique can sometimes be a little awkward (dependant on mood of 'Monsieur Pierre') is Modifications, dependant on the mod they can actually be 'concerned' ... so best to wait till after lunch (their 2hr one) for a CT test by then tester will be 'more cheerful' ;D

Cool beans, thanks for the advice guys! I'm not going for that one now....the ad got relisted on fleabay and now looks more than slightly suspicious (amazing colour-changing overnight type van!) I'm definitely going to be keeping my eyes open for a 2CV while I'm here though. There's no rush, I'm living in the land of garlic till the end of May next year, so I don't need something NOW.

Sorry to hijack the thread a little, but when we were on hols in the south of France this year, I saw what looked like a 2CV version of a Mini Moke. Anybody know what they are and how much they cost? They looked like they could be a lot of fun in the summer

they are a thing called a 'Mehari' ABS plastic bodywork on a steel spaceframe on a regular 2CV platform chassis and mechanicals.
Price in this country, expensive when you can find one, expect to pay between 2500 4500 for a good useable one here, other typres rarelt turn up, never oficially imported and never RHD.

The 2CV variant that I really like is the Bijou coupe - very pretty but I suspect also very expensive
