End of another year so thought i might as well put this up....
Bought a couple of months ago and picked up with help from a mate.... its a 1951 Lanchester LD10 that hasnt seen tarmac since 1986!
For all its time stood still it has survived pretty well! Some rot in the sills and bulkhead area but chassis looks good so far and tinware just needs a bit of fettling the original running gear is still currently fitted and after a day faffing around it now starts runs and drives properly...
These are fitted with pre-select gearbox's and are a bit strange to anyone who hasnt had contact with them (like me ) its a cool setup but i don't intend to keep it as the factory engine (all 40hp and 1242cc's of it) just doesnt do anything for me so that will be getting removed and replaced with this.....
2.5L Daimler V8 ;D
Daimler bought out Lanchester in their later years and it just seemed more fitting to be using an engine from the same stable, I had looked into modern dervs and even the possibility of using the Olds V8 from the DragRover project but all those ideas went out the window when i found this for sale! It needs some bottom end work but I'm confident this can be sorted easily enough along with a few upgrades at the same time.
This little lot came with it....
Ford type9 gearbox, box of assorted tat and a set of stromberg carbs on a manifold....only the gearbox is going to be used by the looks of it as I'm looking into either a funky carb setup or if it came along at the right money....a blower ;D
The engine sandwich plate on the rear has already been redrilled for fittment of the type9 but i will need to sort a flywheel for it but have hopes of machining a Pinto flywheel to do the job.
I have a Scimitar axle kicking around in the garage so that will make its way under this, need to build a front disc conversion up onto the original uprights. Considering the original brake setup is a mix of cable and rod operated drums also need to look at mounting a master cylinder under the drivers floor and plumbing the whole lot up but will look more into that when the body comes off.
This is just a small summary of whats going to be happening but not alot of action will be occuring until the Viva is a bit more complete and i have some garage space back.......
I'll keep you lot updated as and when the fun begins
