This happened yesterday....... The front has come down a few inches....there would be pictures but some dope forgot to take them! If I'm honest it does look better but its a very gentle drop and will look a million times better when the front wheels have been changed(i hope) Will try and get a pic when the rain has cleared Steve

Cheers Pete Jim, they are indeed the original springs just with two coils missing and the bumpstops cut in half also. The springs look pretty similar in diameter to Land-Rover so if needed might pick up a couple from work and cut them down to test their use as "upgrades"

Right then.....on with the pics! At this height the original tyres touch the arches on full lock...i can either roll the arches for some clearance OR can wait till i have some skinny 15's with slightly lower profile tyre which should ditch the problem altogether ;D Todays progress was slow but much needed... Started with going to get a tyre taken off a rim so i could test fit it on the rear: Might have to cut and reprofile the front edge of the arch if I'm to have any hope of fitting a decent size tyre. I also mocked up the wheel trim.... Me likey ;D So with that over and done with i moved on to stripping the brakes down for a clean and adjust, also removed both front hubs, degreased and re-packed them with fresh grease which has improved them no end(stuff that came out was like treacle!) Whilst i was sat under those arches came across some some more rot requiring attention so got the car up on stands all round and started stripping the front end down... The offending rot... Need to pick up some gas tomorrow and then the fun begins! More soon Steve

Love the wheels, I was looking at it thinking "mmm, not sure how they're going to work", but with the trims on, bloody genius mate ;D Love it.

That looks better, have you lowered the back? It looks to be sitting pretty level in the photos. I aint touched the back but it was quite nose high when i got it Later when id finished the brakes i greased all the steering joints and worked the steering back and forth on the ground and then it dropped some more which highlighted the tyre - arch interference.......it was then sitting more noticeably nose down

Great to see some progress on this Dude. I have to say, like Pete has said, the wheels are a stroke of genuis. I too wasn't sold on them until I saw them with the wheel trims on....POW...instant win!
I wouldn't bother to fill the cut-outs up, with the centre caps on they look brilliant as they are.
Can't wait to see more updates on this. ;D

New ride height and new wheel choice with the hub caps is inspired, and works lovely. Sorting out the rot is eminently sensible too.

+1 on the wheels. I think I cried a little when I saw the first pic, then jumped for joy when I scrolled to the picture of them with the hubcap. Look quite period (remind me of pop wheels) but in useable sizes. Winner.

I'm back! After all my plans for the Gathering went south I kinda lost all interest in this and tried selling it on but alas all I got were messers and dreamers winding me up so kept it and have decided to aim for RRG '13 as a deadline to getting this on the road.....lets see how that pans out ;D Soooo where were we......oh yea, made a start on that pesky bit of rot in the RH front chassis rail Rust be gone! As I'm just aiming to get this road legal there wont be any "modifying" just yet so went ahead and simply replicated what was there originally Job jobbed ;D Even though I had got the car to run pretty well it still didnt feel like it was happy, cold starting took awhile and even when warm it misfired and wouldnt rev freely so having checked all the usual suspects I decided that the only culprit could only be the carb(and its worrying lack of gaskets between float chamber and main body ) So this happened To be replaced by this HIF SU from a 1ltr Metro Obviously there is a bit of a fitting issue here soooooooo started off by making a couple of these Lack of a hole cutter does make the job twice as long and twice as painful but once finished the two flanges are mated together Welds cleaned up and araldited to seal Test fitting Very happy with that so this morning I go out and pick up some gasket paper, whilst I'm making gaskets I give the adaptor a coat of paint Then slap it all together.... BEHOLD....the traveller SU conversion it born ;D fired up quite quickly and after a bit of fiddling now runs a damn site better than with the standard 50yr old worn out rubbish.....it even revs up quicker and higher than before but somehow I doubt I'd notice that on the road And thats it upto today! Having also had another poke about can now confirm that at least 3 body mounts will need rebuilding along with half the boot floor and putting some strength back in the running boards.....no welding needed to the floors as they are made of wood and have been recently replaced More soon Steve
