OK (maybe mostly for the Notts peeps) - I need a battery for the Olds. A very heavy duty one. Any good tips on where to go battry shopping? It seems ages since I bought one. Usually got mine from Sutton Autofactors.
Thoughts?
Anywhere online I really need to know about?

I know they're pretty common but i've found Bosch silvers to still be the best, especially on the Williams engine which was high compression.

If you want a cheapy, I have bought some really decent batteries from scrapyards in the past, especially off 4x4s (a series 3 landy with a rotten chassis). Usually costs around £10-15 too.
If you want something new though, i currently have a Yuasa Hi Power battery on the panda, and have jump started a swb shogun td with it (never offer to help start a mates 'new' car - thought it was going to be his old sierra 1.6 ;D)

This year I've bought batteries for - Smart, Skoda, van, Sprite, motorbike, leisure and a pair for my mobility buggy. ALL have come via on-line suppliers as best prices and delivered next day.

If you get trade discount at any motorfactors, I'd try there first, then online and compare prices. If you were local to me I'd say pop in to my work and I'd sort you out, but that's not much help Sorry! I know they're pretty common but i've found Bosch silvers to still be the best Bosch batteries are made by Varta. Personally I'd go with Varta, they are OE on Merc (as well as others) and make all the batteries for Halfords too. Varta batteries come with a 3 year warranty which is nice

Paul - any suggestions as to who? Sorry not one particular supplier. Each time I rang around local dealers and then compared prices to eBay and other on-line offers. In every case, even adding postage, it worked out cheaper ;D Mobility scooter batteries were virtually 1/2 price albeit still just under £150 the pair I should add I also opted for quality / well know makes every time as there are a lot of obscure (made in China ?) starting to be sold. Even then prices were only a little more than than an unknown cheapy. Paul H

just go to gsf... stock some pretty huge stuff.
And if they havnt got what you need, They will most likely get it.
Also have the option of GSF own, Banner OR bosch .. So any budget realy.
If you were nearer id be able to sort it out pretty cheap...

Do you want a cheap battery or a good battery? If you want a good one that will crank over a big V8 again and again get an Optima Red Top. Will be the last battery you buy.

Scrapyard! Get one from a truck or something. They even give you money off if you take in a dead battery at Looms.

Find an agricultural parts supplier in the area. A tractor battery will be available in whatever rating you need and they are usually reasonably price.

I don't have a dead one the Olds came sans battery. It has the Trans Am one on it for now.
I don't think I'll be buying online really as I need to see what will fit, unless theres a good site offering a battery selection by size and post orientation thing.
Normally I go to the factors with the old one and ask for the nearest shape and size they have and some poor lad disappears in the back for 20 minutes LOL
