Paul - any suggestions as to who? Sorry not one particular supplier. Each time I rang around local dealers and then compared prices to eBay and other on-line offers. In every case, even adding postage, it worked out cheaper ;D Mobility scooter batteries were virtually 1/2 price albeit still just under £150 the pair I should add I also opted for quality / well know makes every time as there are a lot of obscure (made in China ?) starting to be sold. Even then prices were only a little more than than an unknown cheapy. Paul H I like varta and was going to say halfords sell very good batterys. I get my disability batterys at a local shop I get the VAT off as its for a registerd disabled person as well that way, worth asking next time you have to change em ?

If you don't have one by the next FUCEM meet Al LMK. As long as I have some dimensions and pole orientation (Positive and negative terminals) I may be able to sort something out .

shame you're not local to me, i have a contact who builds horseboxes he always fits new batteries on them regardless as they go out with warranty, he flogs the 'old' batteries dirts cheap, most of them a good as new, they run 2x 12v to make the 24v the system needs, either way they have more than enough power for anything short of a tractor, and dirt cheap...
maybe could sort an RR courier?

I got my mobility scooter batteries VAT free as well. Some sellers wanted to charge VAT and then give me a form to reclaim myself ! Paul H

Normally I go to the factors with the old one and ask for the nearest shape and size they have and some poor lad disappears in the back for 20 minutes LOL Look at the old battery and it should have a code for the type / style (somehting like 071 etc) making it easy to search for similar. The codes are standardised between all manuafactures just like dry cell batteries are AAA, AA, C, D and such. If the code is missing then any number of web sites give the size, post position and such to enable you to determine what code battery you need. Paul H

The old battery is missing. Also I find trying to select by dimension etc on three sites I tried so far just gives one selection for round post battery which is the same £150 Optima...
Any further recommendations for sites to look at welcomed before I just go to Parkers?

try searching for a 664 alistair. this the more or less standard american big v8 battery, its what most battery trays in fullsizes are sized around, itll start anything (i had one on the 455 olds in my ponti and it spun it very quick. had another 8 in the boot for the juice too ) and is usually quite cheap. i just put it in google shopping and they start at around £80.

If its something I'm keeping that occasionally is "awkward" to start I like these Numax batteries, they are worth the extra cash as you don't damage them through non use or running them flat. (better prices can be found if you hunt for them.) www.tayna.co.uk/Numax-CXV-X-1000-Amp-P7632.html

I used to work for Lucas / Yuasa batteries, and since they closed the Birmingham battery factory no more batteries have been made in this country by anyone. Most batteries sold in this country are made for pennies in such countries as indonisia exported here and re-labeled. Most are rubbish quality.
Even when we made them they all came down the same production line and just had different labels attached. In fact, if we didn't have enough (say) Land Rover batteries, we would just rip the Lucas/Yuasa/Halfords/etc labels off and re-label them as Land Rover.
If you want a quality battery, I'd go for Bosch.
You can't really go by price either, as you are really paying for how long it's guaranteed for. A 1, 2 or 3year guarenteed battery could be exactlly the same battery, just with a longer/shorter guarentee.
Another common misconception is the fitting a more powerful battery gives more power. If don't upgrade the alternater also, it'll soon have no more amps than the original size battery that should be fitted to it.
Good news though. I have parts catalogues for battery fitment. Tell me what Make, model, year and engine your car is and I'll look up what battery should be on your car.
I hope this helps, Kev.

Hi alistair, I can probably sort something out for trade price from GSF, ECP or Andrew Page, think I paid about £65 for a Bosch silver for my e28, not that cheap but I doubt I'll ever have to buy a battery for it again. Something off a big diesel from a scrapyard is gonna be the cheapest for sure, but PM me if you want me to see what ECP etc can do.

Go to halfords and measure up, I did that and they even lent me a tape measure! Then ask how much it would be with a trade card. If it's a good price I'll post you my trade card

I may have a spare battery knocking around which can get another year's service (probably not much more; I chucked a Bosch Silver into the Alfa since it was starting a little slow). For the price of a pint/fryup it can be yours . Don't know if it will be any good mind you for your application (650CCA, 70Ah Lucas Premium 3 battery).
