iv'e had this car for four years now. bought MOT''d 'n' taxed i ran it for a couple of weeks before deciding it's way too slow. the original engine is a very nice design but very very difficult to work on with the roller bearing motorbike style crank etc. i decided a modern engine was the answer. it was already modified with uprated suspension and a fibreglass front end being that it was a track car. i didn't want to fit a motorbike engine but wanted to keep it Honda. S2000 engine was the only choice really. it'll be slightly down on power as i'm fitting Webers for ease of tune etc. it'll still be quick enough. the transmission tunnel on this car is huge. so much so that i have trial fitted a Honda S2000 engine and six speed gearbox without cutting the transmission tunnel. and the engine is further back than the original. ;D for such a small car they are really heavy. nearly 800kgs . this is due to the thing being over engineered. everything uses heavy gauge steel. saying that i'm also over engineering the chassis to beef it up. i want a lot of weight low down to help keep the centre of gravity low so 3mm plate is being welded into key areas as well as a few extra tubes. the suspension is being beefed up as well as modifing some Renault 5 Turbo vented discs to fit the original front hubs. some modern calipers will provide the braking force. at the rear there will be a shortened Atlas Axle. i have just moved the car into a proper little workshop so the modifications can now properly start. everything before was done in a small council lockup. and this is what it'll look like when finished what the car used to look like many years ago. and this is what i use for the odd track day at the moment

i cant wait to see this built! I'm tempted to fit the same engine to the del sol sitting outside, but it's a lot of work to convert it to RWD. best of luck with the bild, I'll be following with much interest!

been busy beefing up the chassis. adding tubing and 3mm plate, welding in the engine mounts permanantly etc. chassis should weigh a ton when finished. the great thing about this build is that i can use so much of the S800 suspension etc that it'll save a lot of time and grief. the steering rack is in the original position and the suspension is already fairly heavy duty. iv'e beefed up the wishbones and manage to graft some Renault 5 Turbo vented discs to the hubs. iv'e also made some offset nylon bushes to allow more negative camber and generally make the whole thing more positive. still so much to do though because so much stuff needs to be modified slightly. i managed to get hold of a small rad good for cooling 300bhp, i had some front coilover shocks specially made because i'm changing the way the are mounted and so on. having the unit is a luxury compared to what i had before. iv'e done more in the last week or so than i managed in the last couple of years. ;D

One question, why webbers when megasquirt would be be cheaper and probably better?

The Internet, like all tools, if used improperly, can make a complete bo**cks of even the simplest jobs...

i don't want fuel inection. carbs will be fine. i know how to tune carbs and they are pretty much self regulating once jetted. i think there are very few people left who can properly tune carbs. it's like the points scenario. show a modern tech a set of points and they wont have a clue how to set them up. for most the easier option would be megasquirt as it can be done on a computer. talk about differences in emulsion tubes and they are lost. there is no guarentee that megasquirt will be better. and that is once it has been sorted to run properly. all the internet searching iv'e done shows very mixed feelings for the F20c engine and megasquirt. mostly bad. for me carbs will be fine, they will work fine and vtec will not cause them problems.

A lot of the photo links seem to be broken for me Plus why start a new thread when the old one could be fixed? Great project that I never saw last time - I have some good memories of a MG Midget that turned up at RRG a few years back with an S2000 lump in it, it was a mental thing on track

iv'e now got pretty much 5 times the amount of space and it's only costing me £25 a month more than that tiny damp council lock up it used to be in . iv'e got another bench (bench number three) to knock up yet and could probably do with more racking at the back. the engine crane was an ebay bargain. £25 delivered (it was only two miles away) the reason for starting another thread is because that is an old account. i deleted loads of stuff a while back.

If this car is finished in 2012 I'd bank on it being one of, if not THE cars of the year next year.
Awesome. REALLY looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
