If this subject has been covered before apologies, but I couldn't find it after a quick search. I've always found the amount of miles a car during it's life is capable of covering interesting (I know a bit sad and comes across as weird) having traveled in a big diesel merc 500 with 475000 miles on the clock and only having had regular servicing ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) , and read about a 1.8 VW with 287000 on here. My cousin is a black cabby and thinks nothing of buying cabs with 1/2 million miles or more and putting another 100k on them in a year. How many miles has your car covered in it's life and how little needed doing to it over those miles. What is the highest mileage car you have heard of.

2.6 million on the same engine is this truly possible !!! How many rebuilds and how much could possibly be original, triggers broom comes to mind it's completely original apart from 5 new brushes and 7 handles.

It really is regular servicing that makes the difference. Once a car gets into the 'Bangernomics' point of life where people consider servicing an optional and largely pointless expense, the life expectency drops considerably! If it's serviced throughout then generally speaking, there's no reason why (most) engines won't go on and on and on...
Of the current cars, our 1.9td (AAZ) Passat is on about 180,000 miles and going strong. Our mk1 Fiesta is on an unknown mileage (the clocks read 90k I think, but I reckon the clocks have been changed and they only read to 99999 anyway...) and still going well.

The highest mileage car I've had was my Punto. I bought it on 92k and sold it at 115k. I bought it after the engine had been replaced and when I sold it the head gasket had gone, along with the coil packs, cat, etc etc. That particular car had been systematically abused during the 10 yrs of its life and proves that proper care and attention makes considerable difference to a car's longevity.

I had a Corvette with 170,000 miles on it. Still going strong and felt great. Admittedly the trans did pack up on it, but it was an 'easy' fix. Obviously 21 years of dealing with 350lb.ft finally got to it ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

My 535 is on circa 350,000 miles has done several drift day under my ownership and the previous owner, it often gets used hard and it feels awesome. I say circa 350k as the odometer only goes to 300k and it's been stuck on that since 2006 according to the MOTs, then my mate bought it in 2008 and used it as a daily for 3 years covering a lot of mileage, so I'd say it's a safe to assume it's close to 350k. It just won't die! ![](http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/robin_xr4i/535-2.jpg) A mate of mine used to work at Mercedes-Benz in Exeter he said they used to have two guys come in for service bits for there 608 vans, one had done 650,000 miles the other had done 1,300,000 miles

I think I possibly have the highest mileage Peugeot 106 that still works, 178k and you wouldn't believe it to look or drive it.
Mind our 200TDi Range Rover has 186k on the clocks and well the 300TDi my mother had clocked over 200k

my current subaru liberty (legacy) wagon 1991 currently has 445,000 kilometers on it and still strong! (about 275,000 miles i think)
i once owned a VN Holden commodore that was an ex taxi when i bought it it had 820,000 kilometers on it (approx 509,000 miles) when i sold it the clock had ticked back over to 275,000 kilometers (about 170,000 miles) and made a profit on the car!

I ran a Pug 205 diesel to just under 300,000 (genuine) miles before it died and not worth repairing. Father in law had a 144E Volvo that he took to nearly 500,000 miles but to be fair we rebuilt the engine at 300,000 due to a piston breaking up. My Volvo 240GL managed nearly 250,000 miles before being scrapped after bonnet came up at speed and damaged roof as well as windscreen so "beyond economical repair". I replaced it with a 740 that had only done 160,000 miles ! A Range Rover Vogue (money pit) had done 220,000 miles when I bought it and the engine was the only aspect that was any good despite having 12 months MOT. The 03 Peugeot Expert van I bought a few months ago has only done 159,000 miles so I'd expect at least double that ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) . Paul H BTW my daily mileage at one time was 174 miles to and from work where I then did a full 8 hours. That then dropped to just over 100 mile round trip when I was transfered to an office nearer to home.

Quite a lot of people at work do high mileages on their cars.
There's an 02 plate Astra with 280k and an 04 plate Audi A4 with 240k. The Audi feels and looks like new inside and out, too.
All of my cars don't have odometers which go above 99999, so determining the total mileage is difficult. I suspect my '66 Beetle has done 197000 miles though.

My Laurel ex-taxi is on 329K km on the odometer, which equates to just over 200K miles. ![](http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4133/4986864712_0a6c139067.jpg) However, said odometer is "stuck" and looks to have been for over a decade, so the real mileage could be double that.

I bought my Passat 130 TDi Sport estate brand new in May 2003 - it's now covered just coming up to 219,000 and it's still on its original clutch!
Only things changed - new rad cos they go rotten, cam belts regularly, oil regularly, brake pads and discs. That's it...
And it still goes like stink, returning 45+ MPG...
Oh and the rear beam cos I wiped it out last year f***ing about in the snow taking my daughter to school - whoops! was a laugh though!

My MX5 is on 206,000kms which I reckon is quite high for a 2 seater roadster. I put 300 miles a week on it at the moment.

My last couple of mk5 transits i have bought with between 240000 and 270000 on them and ran them, my first audi 90 i bought in 1999 was a 1986 car with 210000 on the clock and drove great. The most i have seen was the mid 90's on holiday in canada, went to see a guy about a 57 chevy truck and he had a 65 chevy c50 with 9000 miles shy of a million miles, and it was one owner from new and still worked daily, and never had any major work.
