Its because of my dad that I'm into classic/retro cars. Growing up he always had old cars, and was always tinkering keeping them running. I earned my first ever beer by undersealing the entire underside of his SD1 in the middle of summer. All my mechanical knowledge comes from him and i can't thank him enough. Unfortunately most of his cars are long gone... just a few off the top of my head are -
B42 CKU - Rover 2600s GEM 978N - Jaguar XJ6

The only cars my dad has really fond memories of he has either written off (Capri 3L GT XLR, 21 Turbo) or have been old Toyotas (he had a load of first gen Celicas) so were bangers at the time and would have done well to survive.

It was an animal, 385bhp and a load of suspension and brake upgrades to handle it. Only got written off as a fool of a woman ran out of petrol and left her car parked on a blind bend. My dad came round at a fair speed, swerved to hit the car and went under a tractor instead.

Its an amazing story, fantastic. In the states the car is part of their culture, they respect, love and embrace the whole car scene. Yes there is a lot of bravado as they do go a bit o.t.t, but the car over in this country is more of a tool to do a job, and these days its a bit socially frowned upon to be into cars because of the whole media thing of pollution and climate change Me and and my mates who are all car nutters have often joked we were born in the wrong country, as if we were in the states we would be percieved differently as we are over here, i.e being into cars these days is a bit like saying you enjoy hunting whales

I own my fathers main car from my childhood, so that's not going anywhere (P5b Rover) i wish i still had the Alfasud and P4 110 as well though.. not to metntion the chopped Harley Sportster, Harley 45, Triumph Bonneville....sigh
Even the lime green Hillman Hunter estate with a Holbay engine or the battered red Renault 4 would be welcome back!
Mind you he still owns the 45 so you never know...

Most of my dad's early cars weren't in this country, but they featured Morris Minors a lot. The earliest surviving car my dad has is his '69 Austin Healey Sprite, which he still has.
The rest of the cars since then have all gone to scrapyard heaven.
OHF 979S - Green mk 1 Fiesta 1.1L B876 DUH - Lacquer Red mk2 Fiesta 1.1L F825 CEY - Grey Audi 80 1.8S N83 HCA - Red Fiat Cinquecento 0.9S
That brings us up to date. He still reminisces his car before the Sprite, a red MG Midget mk2 with wire wheels and a seriously breathed-upon 1098. Apparently it would give most larger cars a "run for their money". That one ended its life being concertina'd between a stopped car in front and one behind who didn't stop for the line of traffic. He said that was a '65, and in '77 all the seams opened up upon impact it was so rusty inside the box sections.

Really cool video My dad has only had 2 cars since I was born, a 1987 Montego (E208HLW) and his current '97 Passat. I'd think I'd give more for the Montego back than he would I'd love my Mum's yellow Mk1 Golf back, but that's no longer around either. Was sold when I was about 5, but made it to 2003. (HHW915X)

My dad woudl kill me if I got any of his back, he like to think he has moved up in the times, as growing up with MK2 Escorts in the garden, he hates them and can't understand why anyone would pay high prices for them, he always said they were below average in there day and rot boxes to boot, which is a shame as I love MK2 Escorts.

My Dad's pretty cool. The cars I can remember him having are:
- Healey 100/4 - Jensen 541s (which is probably the car I went home in after being born in '72) - Austin Cambridge estate - Farina type - now extinct thanks to the banger 'racers'... - Rover 2000 (P6) - had for a long time, can just about remember going to school in it - Scimitar SE5 - Scimitar SE6 - Jensen Interceptor SP - Mk2 Jag - lots of Vauxhalls: '83 Carlton Mk1 Senator 2.5 Mk1 Senator 3.0 (nice car, unfortunately got chopped last year) Mk2 Senator 3.0 Mk2 Senator 3.0 24v - RR Silver Shadow 2 now... Mazda 626 (yawn... must do something about this)
It's no wonder I'm into cars.
Ps Qwerty, your avatar is cool

My dad still has one of his favourite cars, an '85 XR3I he bought when I was starting high school around '98. Took it off the road in 2002, and it's been sat in his mates barn since then. He also keeps buying the same Cavalier, an '84 SRI in silver with the awesome check recaros, just bought it back off a mate for the 4th time

I posted a thread on here about my families old motors. There's only one of them that I think he'd want back and luckily it's the only one likely to survive. I remember that one specifically because I accidentally put a huge metal deep scratch in it the day after it came back from the spray booth... Oops.
