I had mine on a classic policy when 20 or 21 (can't remember), through Lancaster. Will be again when I finish it, same company at 23. Best bet is to phone some companies and ask though! [/inb4VIP]

Lancaster quoted my friend £39,000 nearly for my 1.6 Capri, I screenshotted it just because it was so crazy,he is 18, just thought I'd share that, yet for me it was £210 and I was 24 with 4 points. them few years make all that difference

Peter James - but you have to phone them up, they can't quote for anyone under 25 online.
What are you trying to insure?

You need to get on the phones really. Green Light, Brentacre, Peter James, Adrian Flux, those are the ones I'd make a beeline for. I was with Adrian Flux at a similar age

I'm 21 been insured on a classic policy with footman james for 3 years.
You need to phone rather than try online quotes. I can also get quotes from Aidrian flux and Peter James over the phone but not online

Just to add, that on a classic policy you don't rack up no claims bonus on it.

I phoned Adrian Flux just to get an idea about what my MGB will be like to get insured. Explained about all the mods, the V8 engine conversion, roll cage, alloy wheels, uprated suspension and brakes to go with the power. I was refused as the car would be parked in a residential car park. I explained that I could keep it at my lock up but they said that anything further than 2 miles from my home is not allowed... (lock up is 20 miles away) The dam things going to have a removable steering wheel, hows that going to be nicked!!
I'm also 32 so thought I'd be grand but got too cheesed off to phone anyone else after they passed me onto 2 other companies and I had to go through all my details again to be told no we don't insure cars like that... Sorry rant over.
Going to try Footman James next time.

1st time classics that actually look good and have some guts? sorry, should have specified that too.
thanks for all the good comments guys this is beging to help. I think the fact i have 0 no claims and live in OLDHAM OL9 post code is all against me atm. but surely if copey can get his capri insured for £530 i should be able to get an MR2 for less than a grand!?!?

No. I have 0 claims (but only had a classic policy), 23, had a license 2 and a bit years (that's the killer bit), live literally in the middle of nowhere and I can't insure an MR2 either, of either model for under a grand. Though a 3.0 Supra just shades it. Anyway, you're either going to have to pay through the nose, or wait a bit.

1st time classics that actually look good and have some guts? sorry, should have specified that too. Looking good is entirely subjective. I don't especially like MR2s, for example and wouldn't think of them as a classic car If you want something with a bit of grunt and want to be able to afford to insure it, you're going to have to think a bit more laterally than smallish sports cars. In the eyes of insurers, I imagine you will be a far lower risk in an old Jag than in an MX5, for example. With that in mind, I'd be looking at big old saloons and hoping that you can find a friendly broker.
