Goal posts keep moving, i have a friend who has been restoring a A35 for his Daughter who turns 17 in a week or 2. kind of my suggestion as were very cheap to insure when i was 17 (2004) anyway looks like i've scraped in everytime. If i were to re insure a 911 today i can't where as last year was fine, drove it for a month and loved it!
So essentially the A35 is now sold as couldnt get a classic policy. and putting a old car on non classic policy works out Silly prices. 5k or somat. Looks like she'll be in a modern for a few years. Thank god i turn 25 in couple of months time. so long as i'm carefull i hope the Brown stuff is over now.

oh and forget the mr2, I couldn't get one insured when i was younger either. Look at old mercs triumphs and jags. Insurance Cos hate "sports" cars, and Mr2 s are not even that quick unless turbo. better off with a 300e merc. I had a mate who had somehow insured a Mr2. Daddys car i think anyway he died so remember your young you don't need power yet!

I often wondered how so many people go through the walls of the charborough estate... though I have seen some real idiots along there.
Sad that it cost people's lives.

I phoned Adrian Flux just to get an idea about what my MGB will be like to get insured. Explained about all the mods, the V8 engine conversion, roll cage, alloy wheels, uprated suspension and brakes to go with the power. I was refused as the car would be parked in a residential car park. I explained that I could keep it at my lock up but they said that anything further than 2 miles from my home is not allowed... (lock up is 20 miles away) The dam things going to have a removable steering wheel, hows that going to be nicked!! I'm also 32 so thought I'd be grand but got too cheesed off to phone anyone else after they passed me onto 2 other companies and I had to go through all my details again to be told no we don't insure cars like that... Sorry rant over. Going to try Footman James next time. FJ would only insure me if the car was garaged overnight

I'm 22 and have a 1984 190E 2.0 Auto insured with Lancaster for £225/yr.
That's limited to 4000 miles and garaged overnight (but its my second car so that suits, as I use my Eurobox for the daily commute)

bet a 300e is still cheaper than a 190e, I had to hold out for a 190 until i turned 21 even then only a 2.0l and 22 until could get a 2.6. jasonb360 I travel the road very regularly, on it yesterday infact and witnessed a terrible unsafe overtake. I admittedly do overtake, and did pass the car that had made a silly one. its a good road with good visability, just some people fail to realise speeds of oncomming traffic or don't understand if a car is going "slow" at 40 they need to actually accelerate to the limit of 60 in a short space of time.
Oneday they'll give up replacing the wall. I'd love the job of the estates Bricky. guarrenteed work afterall!

If you want cheap insurance, Go for something entirely out of the ballpark of normal young drivers.
stuff that normally wouldnt be glanced at.
I.e exec saloons. Some realy quick, Cool cars to be had for peanuts, And insured cheaply too.
Big quick vauxhalls are cheap to insure too. A gsi3000 would have costed me £500 odd at 22 years old.

real useful thread this, ive just been stung with a £430 increase in my insurance for no apparent reason, i don't use the car much as I'm in 3rd degree course so looking and getting something classic.
anyone on here had any experience insureing a classic merc at aged 20/21, looking at a W123 230 or similar
I'm 20 and have 3 years NCB, havent had chance to ring around yet so thought id ask here if anyone has any recommendations?

I'm early retired (as is wife) so have removed commuting from my (x3) policies and that has reduced premiums quite a bit.

There was an article about it in this months Retro Cars (the one with the Blue Toledo on the cover). Some good advice in there. My friend had a policy with Footman James at 17 on his Triumph 1300fwd, they're out there, you just have to keep looking.
