Ok so I have a scimitar chassis that I want to rebody with an idea I have in my head, my head is a very twisted place my question is can I remove the bit that goes above the fuel tank behind the rear wheels I know the chassis is meant to be standard but this bit has no suspension mounting points or anything on it and it would mean the body could look more like I want it to with this bit gone. also need some 15" steel wheels in 4 x 114.3 flavor not important what of set as the fronts will be banded to 9" and the rears to 18", chep and close ish to the midlands if pos.

as I read the rules no, you can add to the structure, replace like for like but not remove?? Not that it's likely to be an issue for me but how does that apply to all the people cutting rear cross members from Land Rovers? I'd love something like this.... Mark

Thought that would be the case which is a pain. I was hopeing to build something as much like this as possible but useable If the rear part of the chassis has to stay will have to have a rethink then

easy solution.... fit a nice hot-rod style pickup bed on the back of it. Personally, I think it would look the nuts! Don't forget, it could never be a spitting image of that car with the scim chassis, due to the front suspension uprights Beetle floorpan would be the better option IMO

I know it would not be a spitting image of the car but I wanted it as close as possible. The front will have bigger wheels on and be lowered so the suspension toweres will not be as noticable
Do not want curse word beetle suspension or a curse word flat 4, and I want the engine in the front.
I do not realy want a pick up bed on it to be honest, love pick ups but that is not what I am wanting for this build.
Have to say autofive that is an intresting rebody on the scimitar when is it being registered

Couldn't you use a Locost or Dutton(EEK!) chassis for this?

Maybe possible to use an already registered locost chassis, will look into the cost as I already have the scimitar and think a losost would be alot more evpensive.

How about extending the bodywork from the screen backwards, to cover the fuel tank? any idea what you'd use for the screen? Lexan would deffo work - but wipers would scratch it up to curse word And thinking about it, if you make the seats extend down into the voids of the chassis, you could easily get a low enough seating position to pull of that kinda roofchop. Just use a sheet of alloy/steel, and then a bit of foam to make it vaguely comfortable You got the v6 mounted in it yet then?

you have just said exactly what I planed to do with the floor and seating as the rear tyres will be 33" tall so cut springs and seats sunk into the chassis voids as the chassis will sit alot higher.
Front glass will be cut down landrover defender flat screen, alot of hot roders do it.
As I am unable to sell my BMW E23 I will use the 2.8 six from that as I know it is a good engine.
Will have to work out haw to deal with the rear chassis as when I extend the body work over the rear I just do not like the look of it as much.

Just been playing around with the pictures I can find online of that car (not many more, but a few bigger pics!) and tbh, the standard engine position makes it looks VERY silly - have you put any thought into mounting the engine further backwards? Not much point leaving it standard, considering there won't be any rear seats anyway....
also, the screen in the bigger pics, is shown as having a clear top, and is all one pirce... will upload them in a sec for ya

Top picture has screen going into the roof but the lower 2 don't, it is the lower to I am looking to replicate.
I will move the engine back and I am using a longer engine as well so I sould be able to keep it looking ok

Not seen some of those pics before. makes me want to build it even more.
will stick with a normal flat screen and a solid roof I think, think it would still work if the screen waas twice as tall meaning I will fit inside and be able to drive it.
just the rear over hang on the chassis problem

Lol, just noticed another slight problem.. unless you pretty much remake the whole chassis, you can't actually move the engine any further back shame you can't move the suspension forwards eh? (well... unless you want to be sneaky, extend the chassis rails, and grind the welds smooth that is)
