I've got a mk3 Golf as my daily ,. (see the comment in my sig.) However I do own a 72 VW Camper, its in pieces at my parents place (I have no garage, dad offered to sort out the "burnt cylinder" ,.. turns out to be warped piston rings ). I like anything though (as you may have noticed),...

Cool! Theres such a variety here. I used to be a member of the Mercedes Club but to be honest I got a bit fed up with the "one marque" thing. Retro-Rides is much more interesting! ;D

Arrgh - Its going to be difficult to top Ratdat's collection, so I won't even try. I have only one - my beloved Mk2 Golf 16V but i hope this is only the start of my collection. I like most retro stuff but especially old German motors, I'd love a mid 70's Audi 80 GTE.

I'm Rootes Group myself, had Imps since I was this high <imagine a greasy bloke gesturing towards his knees> but I've had 80s/early 90s rear wheel drive Volvos too. And the odd modernish Vauxhall Astra.

Will be looking for an Imp soon.
Would really like a Datsun 240Z next year depending on my budget. If not may settle for a 280.

If you want a 240Z, don't get a 280ZX...you'll be dissapointed They don't look as nice and nor do they go as well. They are still a fine car but it's like chalk and cheese comparing it to a 240Z. You do get what you pay for and with a 240Z you'll most certainly pay for it ;D As for Imps... I do wish at times I'd never sold my Chamios...it was an ace little car...great fun to drive and mega easy to fix.

Hmmm... I like any car that is interesting to drive, which means I dislike most modern cars, regardless of their make. I feel the same way about modern cars. Whilst most are pleasant to drive, few are fun. That's why I really like the '89/90 Nissan Sunny ZX hatchbacks...they are great fun. Unlike most modern cars, they are raucous and noisy and are fantastic fun to chuck around the back lanes. Like a lot of old cars they run a really low final drive so they really scream and the engines have a wonderful note. They have plenty of feel through the steering and suspension and in many ways feel older than they are. I don't think anyone understands why they are good until they have a go in one. I know I didn't.

I know I didn't. I know what you're saying about modern cars, all those electronic assists and the fact that they share parts with everything else means that nothing is actually special or unique to drive anymore. I mean, those modern Astras I had were pleasant, and rarely gave me problems, but I couldn't get attached to them at all, and they were only interesting if I was on a backroad going at a fair bit over the speed limit. Any old motor has something to offer you, and I for one kind of like the old basic interiors, I mean loads of painted metal and vinyl in the interior has a lot more charm than grey plastic. And I like fixing a motor at the side of the road and getting on my way again, instead of being towed to a main dealer where they suck their teeth and tell me that there is nothing they can do except replace half the car and charge a fortune (and it's not even their fault, the cars are built to be unfixable nowadays)

What about a 260Z? Isn't the swb two seater version little more than a 240Z with a bigger engine? Yeah, the 2 seater 260Z is basically the same with minor trim differences. They do go for a bit less than a 240 but aren't all that common. The only 280ZX I'd have would be a 2 seater but they are really rare. With the right things done to them they can look great.

I've always felt the same about the cars I drive. Which is why I was specific in chosing my daily driver - 106 Rallye 3 years ago.
I specifically took the car to scotland for a week a few years ago just to drive around those great western lanes. Its almost as basic inside as my 100A and is very quick when it matters (off the lights and around corners!), but despite the frantic nature of the car, it has been tainted with ecu chips and sensor controls which continue to dog the cars enjoyment factor.
Another thing about old cars, is that you can do everything with a series of decent spanners and screwdrivers and not a diagnostic machine computer.
Where's the fun in that?

true i know what you mean i like to pop the bonnet of a car and get in there but these new motors u cant it has got a whopping shield over it.
However i have just installed my mappable ECU (as featured in Retro cars) and its wicked when u pull up next to someone and they see u fiddling with your ecu with a laptop in a car that predates em
