was going along a back road i was unfamiliar with, slowed down to 40-45 for a corner, but seeing as my tyres are buggered (i was putting a new set of alloys on on sunday) I lost the slightest amount of grip, one wheel hit the grass, and i was off, into a ditch, exhaust is busted, front crossmember bent inwards, front bumper is mangled.... all from a glorified molehill.... damn these french tin cans! now i fully expect a slating, god knows ive had it all already, but honestly with how my tyres have been for the last week, i think it would have happened if i was going half that speed for the conditions, the road was damp, but the strip before had been resurfaced so i didnt notice... anyhoo, i NEED to be able to drive, so ive put a wanted up for a cheap little car with some t&t on, but what should i do? most of it is a cheap fix, but the cross member is going to be the worst thing to fix... should i get another car soon and just save this one, or break it and scrap it and use the money for a half decent car? i need to be back on the road as soon as possible

Advice on crashing? Don't go on a public access web forum and tell everyone you were driving about on bald tyres.
Hope that helps!

Depends what you crashed and what its worth whole or as bits. French sounds like something Citroen/Peugeot/Renault and I can't think of that many which are rare or desireable enough. I'd probs break it and see how much you can get back.

You're kind of asking questions that are just a matter of opinion - if you want to fix it, fix it?
It all depends how much it means to you. If you're questioning it, then obviously not that much.

Is crossmember bolt or welded onto the car ? Are you 100% sure no distortion / twist to the chassis rails and it's just the crossmember ?

compossimonite, i havent checked if its bolted or welded, but I'm fairly sure welded... and no I'm not 100% sure, thats the biggest problem, i need to get someone to look at it because for how far its gone in (literally inches from the sump) i imagine the rails will be twisted too, meaning cutting the cross member out, getting it on a jig then welding it back in... I suppose either way I'm in the market for a new car, because i cant see that getting done in a couple of weeks :/

Top half bolts on, bottom is welded, it'll probably have done the rad too, did you drive it home or was it recovered? Pics will help.

Possibly another one with MOT that has a blown engine? If there's any twist in the chassis, don't bother, it'll be more trouble than you can imagine. Guess how I know...

i'll get pics up tomorrow, i drove it but thats mainly because i couldnt bare to look at the damage. the rad isnt leaking at all, it looks like its been pushed back but i cant see any damage to the core... all of that wont be too much anyway. We're looking at the cross member tomorrow, I'm pretty sure its fixable now that ive looked at it again and talked to my dad about it, the rails themselves don't look to be twisted, I'm going to be taking it to the garage as soon as i can. its just the matter of time, i need it done soon :/ i did just find a mk1 polo near me going cheap though....

So you were driving down a backroad that you didn't know, and slowed to 45mph. And you were on tyres that you knew were terrible (despite claiming them to be legal)...
Just read it back and see if you can make it not sound like you were an absolute tool.
FWIW. Strip the good bits, frag the rest, buy something else. Take pass plus or something.

pass plus is motorway driving, its was just one of this things, I'm not trying to say i wasnt a tool, i drove to fast for the conditions, forgetting simple things and i paid for it. Like i said, lots of little things that i didnt take into account. anyway, having another look at the chassis tomorrow, ill post some pictures and keep thos of you that care updated

Nice reply, obviously your a driving god and have never made a mistake in any aspect of your life.... He was doing below the speed limit, in a road legal car and miss read the conditions. Hardly justification for you to abuse him! He's asking for help and you call him a tool and tell him to take a pass plus. Nice. I'd say asses the damage, if it's going to be a cheap and easy fix, then do it. Or buy an AX and swap the bits over
