I think I know the answer to be a resounding no, but this has just arrived on my drive for the princely some of nothing. Its my mum's old car, a '93 Mazda 626 1.8 GLXi, which they didn't trade in against her new Toyota because my dad was "insulted" at the £300 trade in offer saying he'd rather keep it himself for that. Which he did and now a year later having realised they have no actual use for it have given it to me. MOT's up so its in tomorrow. 60K from new one owner FSH. EDIT - yup those are reversing sensors!

Plonk it on the bay for spondoolicks to get the yank tin running.
Or blackboard paint, cut springs, mask some scallops off before you paint it matte so you're left with kind of 'ghetto candy flake' scallops. Awesome.

Top grammar tips! Bought = purchased. Brought = relocated Lose = misplace/opposite of win. Loose = your mum

I think I know the answer to be a resounding no, but this has just arrived on my drive for the princely some of nothing. Free car Japaneese reliabilty Nice colour Practical History and carefull previous owners Who cares if it's retro or not - faced with that or the bus/public transport I know what I'd rather use Ex-wifes parents had an earlier version and I must admit it was a fantasticaly reliable bus and they owned it for what seemed like a lifetime.....

I actually don't mind that! You don't see many of that shape 626 around these days & although not strictly retro (yet), you just know - as has been mentioned on here many times before, that it would benefit from a bit of the old 'treatment'.......

I would say go for it. I know it goes against the grain of having a retro as a daily, but I prefer to have a modernish daily that I don't really care about so much for work. Normally get them cheap run them for 6 month flog them on and normally either make a small or profit or at least get 6 months of free motoring. I normally use that for work and as a parts chaser/bike carrier then it saves getting the cars I like trashed. That way you can save money for your retro passion. Plus I normally do 500 mile plus per week in normal driving and I don't want to be putting that on my monza for basic travelling. I want to enjoy the miles I put on that. Current daily is a W reg primera which was part exed against my trooper when I sold that. But I have just been given a K reg Toyota Camry estate for free . So I am gonna get that ready for test then use that as a daily and sell the primera for Monza money ;D

Its certainly rare - I'm a big fan of the old 1st generation Xedos 6 - would the engine and wheels from one of those fit??

I think its 5 on 114mm pattern (actually 5 on 4.5", but metric seems to suit a J car better) I need to woop the hubcaps off and have a look. Its a reliable old thing, never once let them down. I reckon I can get 2 years use out of it without spending more than about 2 gallons of 10w30 and a couple of filters... and winters coming soon... Probably needs lowering too.

mmm, not a reliability problem near a big 90's mazda, and for free you're not going to suffer. don't do anything to it (perhaps moondiscs!) but leave it high and floaty... consider a straight through... it will bury mucho stuffo at the lights-o :s lol

Random 90's J-cars are good. Look at this thing I'm picking up tomorrow, all being well..... Twin rear wipers in the mid-90's, hurrah! Shades of Allegro estate in the rear pillar? Done loads of miles but good history. New wheels also needed for it, probably the same 5-stud PCD as you'll be looking out for. Can't recall seeing many 626 saloons like that one AlistairK, rotund styling makes it look like a stretched 121.

Even the same wheel trims. It had been parked up since january. Put a battery on it and it started up first turn of the key.

older than the spice girls, which makes it sort of 90's retro. I'd ignore it in the street but that doesnt mean theres no potential. You gat a bargain and blessing there, doubt the folks would be impressed with blackboard paint though would they?! ;D

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Low over moon discs.... lakes style would work really well, and it would be easily reversible when you wanted to move it on ;D

Slam. Moondiscs. Matt black paint. Done.
Alternatively...
Get in. Turn key. Drive to destination. Spend money on Yank Tanks.
