Good: Admiral, good prices, good customer service and the opening hours (7 days a week) are really good
Bad: Adrian Flux, nearly got taken to court and slapped with a CCJ because of their incompetince. Wouldn't recomend them to anyone and certanly would never use them again.

Yeah I think I will .. "wisdom of the crowd" and all that. Thanks for all the info, clearly some consistency on the good and the bad side. Also I'd not heard of Peter James before so I'll check them out for my own purposes too

I believe Peter James was the James in Footman James, then I think, sold out, then got bored and started again. (but I'm tired so I will wait someone to confirm cos this might be a dream)

Never had a crash and had to claim so my opinions is based purely on price and customer service.
Good: Aviva (Driving for a year, 1 years NCB, £650 mods declared on my Colt. Very helpful on the phone, very understanding of modifications. Seem better with insuring older cars than newer which should be fine for everyone here.)
Bad: Adrian Flux (Chuffing expensive, hold music is bloody abysmal and trust me you'll hear a lot of it. Unless you're a fan of Queen then you'd be happy)

Good: Admiral; Been happy with mods despite not the newest cars and being a young driver. Helpful and the breakdown cover isn't too bad either.

Good: Quinn - although a few years ago now, i remember nice customer service, good prices and, i think i got free 24 hour cover for picking a car up and bringing it home.
Bad: Adrian Flux - Renewal has rocketed, customer service is poor. Even before all the recent "insurance hikes", I swapped my group 13 audi 80 estate for a group 8 mk3 polo GT and they would not reduce the cost at all. Then it went up. They wont let me go fully comp as my car is 'only' insured for £1000 (its not even worth that, i tried to bump it up so they'd let me go fully comp!!).

Peter James - BAD (I don't have a landline now, calls to them are premium rate and always a long wait at 25p/minute)
Equity Red Star : BAD (mrs is insured with them, we just bought an AX in my name, they won't transfer her remaining months insurance onto the AX as 1. it's in my name, 2. we don't have logbook (it went to DVLA 2 days ago!)
Daimond (aimed at women) **** Bad! "you get settlement cheque within 24 hours" - our car was in a smash abroad leaving us with no transport. Took them 4 months to decide to write it off - then we get cheque in 24 hours !
