I'm not sure you can get them anymore DarrenW and I had this discussion Saturday night or C.A.R.S, so maybe he's done some investigation...?

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

The german style? Technically a bit naughty. But there's plenty of places do them. SeventyNine Latham blokey is the fella to ask. If it's just old-school UK-font pressed aluminium ones you can get them off eBay for £20 a pair. I got some black n silvers for my Landie and they were top notch quality.

robin480 in da house: You know pressed metal/ally ones like they have in europe........Can someone pleas tell me about this!!!!! I surf and buy a couple of Britt VAG sites and magazines and everywhere I see German style plates done with Britt numbers on why? ?? Do you ever see a Cleaned.be or other Belgian VW with German style plates, same with the Dutch & Austrians, never having German look plates on their cars, I don't get it why you guys over on the island just must have plates that look like they'r from another country, in the Air Cooler & Hot Rod sceene I also see a ton of California, Florida etc. plates with your numbers on but why don't I ever see a Skoda with Cech looking plates on but it might be the next thing...... Sure I understand if you drive a Hot Rod, J-car or something that you'll when taking it to a car show change the plates to something more fitting to your car/style, that I get. I always fit a California bike plate to bikes I take to shows but that's because I don't want people to be able to find out who the owner is and where he/she lives, here it can be done with at text mess from a phone, it's pure safety reasons..... DP asks: Is it really that all Britt VAG owners really would like to be German?!?!?! Enlighten me.... Edit: Feel like posting this over on Edition 38 or other VAG Forum but I guess I would be lynched.....

dp, I'm pretty sure it's all just part of the 'german look'. I personally cant see the point in putting german plates on a rhd car, as it's obvious not german! but that's just me! I suppose it's similar to some of the aircooled guys in the states building rhd cars, purely cos they didn't get them over there, and it's something different... Mike *I'm probably completely wrong, but hey, its friday and i don't care ;D*

Where can you get them 'pressed' then? My local motorfactors'll do them. Of course it would be highly illegal on later cars - they look cool though don't they? My plate is the old style with the letter of the year at the end - so hoping the plodd won't notice/care.

You get retro Citroens with French type face plates as well, and I've seen plenty of newish custom J-cars with J plates on. You can have them made up now as well

dp: But did you now in France if you have a 'British Car' (i.e. MGB or Mini) that they fit 'British Style' plates on the car (make the font bigger to to look UK size). Were very popular in Paris a few years back.

How much of a problem with the law is to run black pressed plates? I've seen a same reg bmw (Y) with these plates and this is obviously illegal, but how much of a problem are they in reality? I.E. Police attention.

Sorry but I think that post '73* cars fitted with old style plates (ie black background, silver / white letters) look pez, as they would never have been fitted wth them when new Not a fan of german plates either but I can understand the US style plates on the US cars, as this is partly due to what numberplate size will fit. *In fact, the 'modern' type plates (white / yellow with black letters) were introduced before this, so most late '60s & onwards cars would have had them when new.
