OK, looks like I might be covering some more miles in future than I do now. Lets say change in lifestyle and circumstances. So I'd like to keep rollin' in style, but would need to be seeing 40 MPG or more ideally. This is hard. Some of my miles will be motorway, plenty in fact. I had thought of a Morris Minor but they don't eat motorway miles as I'd like. I thought about a Gen 6 Celica 2.0GT, because they are one of my guilty pleasures and 35 mpg, mmmm... Insurance says no really. I looked at a Cavalier 2.0 - but really not sure that's what I want. Way too modern really. Insurance tricky if its not an early one as well. so 1991 or earlier, pref 1980 or earlier, good MPG, cool, and would also help if it has a decent load bay... Budget £500? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250893384703#ht_579wt_1177Our Mr Damaged found this corker on the bay. Dunno about MPG on it. Look good liveried up as Akku's Autos though. I was also thinking about a ratty FB Victor or something with a 1.7 Isuzu TDi and 5 speed in it. But realistically way too much work for me to do. Gutted I missed this Although it meets few of my stated requirements or budget. Been cool with LPG... Hmmm. Too new, shame. this one would let me relive my blue velour fetish but I don't think they are exactly economical which was the name of the game. This 1300 Cortina is back on the bay and appeals. Would need an engine transplant and some other work. Also not a fan of the "no keys, no log book" buy... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1976-FORD-CORTINA-1300-L-BLUE-RESTORATION-PROJECT-/200654991795?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2eb7f831b3www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1967-HUMBER-SCEPTRE-GREY-1725-RARE-REGISTRATION-MANUAL-OVERDRIVE-/330616055242?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4cfa40a5caLPG or a TDI would make this a winner. Dependingon what it needs for an MOT This I love but will sell for more than I could afford.... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MARINA-CUSTOM-HOT-ROD-VAN-/220859972684?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item336c47bc4cTurdblower diesel Sierra? HA Bedford van? Not a motorway motor though...

I'd buz off of the bluebird, but I wouldn't expect 30mpg, never mind 40mpg. I guess it would be ok, but not that great. I had a 1.6 LX but no idea what MPG it were doing.

Would you be up for doing some work? This appeared on the DAF forum earlier today. Its proper cheap comes with loads of spares and should be pretty easy to recomission. As in most of the structural work has already been done to a decent standard. Could make a great rat look if ran as is lol Load space is huge for the size of car and it will do 40 to 45mpg. Stick a diesel in the caddy, saw a GMC TD V8 on eBay a few weeks back for £500 BIN. Or an old merc, 123 or 124, be easier to find a oil burner in a 124 and they run on veggie oil. V6 pinto mustang???

^ My dad had one just like that for a while after splitting with my mum 10 years ago, i used to use it a bit as well, It was great fun to drive but the handling to dire, It was just like driving a plate of jelly.
I managed to snap the gear lever on it which seemed to improve the gear change being a quick shift stick.

Old tidy Carlton cheap decent size and comfy. Get a 4cylinder one. Remove engine and bolt up a 1.7 isuzu. Done in a day conversion for much cheapness..

Mmmm. 1.7 Carlton Diesel sounds like, erm, under powered? I could do underpowered in a car with muchos character. 1.7 TD in a Victor or something, yeah. Even in an FE Victor. I had a Carlton and it died of mysterious wiring/ECU faults in 6 weeks. Similar to my Laurel. I don't like cars of that era with electronics.
I looked at that weird Chevy hearse/popemobile thing on eBay. Madness.

I looked at that weird Chevy hearse/popemobile thing on eBay. Madness. Not if you were getting into the undertaking business. An upgraded Minor with 1275 and a diff swap would be up to it. But you wouldn't get one for £500. I suspect something Japanese in the 1.3-1.6 range would be the thing to get. Triumph Acclaim? 1st gen Mazda 323? As ever, you've just got to hang on and see what comes up that fits the bill.
