Says me,.. wheres the engine swap? The modifications? The affordability? They are great, interesting and desireable classic cars, perfect for the pages of C&SC, where I would be more than happy to read about them and the Healeys that are a constant feature of RC now.

i don't see why to be "retro" it has to be modified,
to me the delorean embodies the retro spirit. quirky, wierd, curse word, just cos you cant pickone up on ebay for three fiddy doesnt take away the fact the car is retro

And since when did you become ruler of what's "in" and "out" ? wheres the engine swap? The modifications? The affordability? Wasn't aware these were prerequisites......sheesh, and you called VZi narrow minded! They are great, interesting and desireable classic cars, perfect for the pages of C&SC, where I would be more than happy to read about them and the Healeys that are a constant feature of RC now. Where you would be more than happy to read about them. But alas, you don't speak for everyone. I think someone needs to use "IMO" a bit more in their posts...

I think someone needs to use "IMO" a bit more in their posts... The most overused phrase on the internet. Do you genuinely not know that is David's opinion? Sorry - I just get really riled at the 'You should use IMO!!' crowd. If anyone can't understand that ANYTHING I say (apart from when quoting facts) is an opinion then you have problems. *n

sometimes on the internet penski-san it is hard to know in which manner a person is talking, it is easy to be mislead or misread someone on the internet, saying IMO in REAL life would be retarded of course, but on the internet i think it helps clarify what message someone is trying to convey.

I think the point is that a deloeran hardly encompasses the spirt of the retro car scene (cheap+common old motors often modified in some way and not concorse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so why does a mag aimed at peple in the retro car scene go on about them so much??
cous they are not in touch thats why!

And since when did you become ruler of what's "in" and "out" ? Since I read what Retro Cars magazine was all about in Issue 1. I think someone needs to use "IMO" a bit more in their posts... Everything I post is my opinion,.. I wouldn't type it otherwise??

Also there were other requisites for a car to be retro, it doesn't have to be modified, but then it would be down to cost, popularity and even competition history.

i thought retro was just the era between classic and modern. not too old and not too new. But that would exclude cars like A40s and DaFandangos Beetle.

If you don't like the mag, then why buy it? Bit like the TV really, rather than complain about a programme that IYO is curse word, switch it off or watch something else! We all have our own opinions on all sorts of things, but quoting and picking arguements with other members posts on here doesn't make for nice reading IMO. I guess I shouldn't complain and switch off the computer, but I won't cos this is still a great place to be....I'd just like it to stay that way! BTW, Vroom vroom is on the TV atm....it's utter curse word[IMO] so I've just turned it off!! ;D

If you don't like the mag, then why buy it I don't,.. but it used to be fantastic,.. and thats where my gripe is, they have managed to destroy what was once an outstanding magazine. I've been looking through past issue this evening and you can see the enthusiasm oozing from the pages.. I (ir)regularly meet up with Simon (founding-editor) for a lunch time drink and you can feel his enthusiasm still. Thats whats missing now,.. you just don't feelit dripping from the magazine any more.

Oh damn! hope i didnt fuel the fire, maybe the were just commenting on that fact noone liked the Scorp when it came out. Reanimation Mag would write something like , 'Radical Scorpio Lowrider with all the trimmings!' or summat better if i wasnt so tired ATM!
Not exactly sure what Retro Cars formula is meant to be, it has changed a little bit. Never been a massive fan, howerver as a reader of CF beginning reading RC was seamless to me and looked like the makings of a good mag. Apart from the great familiar cars in this issue i'm rarely inspired to buy it these days (couldnt find it in smiths or anywhere today in the city centre!).
Outside of Retro Cars mag, retro for me is just old forgotten/not seen often, thats my latest reasoning, generally 10-20 years old some cars slip away from regular sightings, Delorian propably did that before its 10 years. I like to see them and read about em, but i realise they are probably standard and not affordable, so thats the bit that turns me off reading about now exotic stuff like that.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I've currently got the first 4 issues in front of me,.. been reading them for the past two days,.. really fired me up and filled me with enthusiasm!! .. Thats whats missing, and there is no formula for that, its just something that some magazines are able to do. I think the whole feel of the first year of retro cars can be got from the VW powered Fiat 600 feature in issue 4... just a fantastic article. Also the front wheel drive cars in the same issue are featured in such a way that I now want something FWD to play with!

Gotta be honest I thought that the spread given by the mag to the event was better than you would get in Custom Car or similar. Ok,so it was kinda their event, but not since the mid 90s BSH have I seen as many pages of a mag dedicated to one show. I was surprised to see my car in even one shot, and I too have no idea about which way to take what they wrote, but hey, most of the times the car pops up on websites it receives a love/hate response. The way I look at it is the people who's opinion I should listen to get it,and the rest of them don't. I don't mean that in a narcissistic (sp) manner, more that if someone gets it,then they're probably thinking laterally. Anyway thought the spread was lacking in cool cars, but then I would've had twice the spread in the mag, just easily looking round the showfield, before even talking about the strip action. Well done to nightmares for getting the car in,awesome car. top marks

I'm just not sure that the editorial team -understand- what they are supposed to be writing about.
This is best summed up by the articles about their own cars - there seems to be no depth of knowledge or desire to innovate. The 'workers playtime' always just seems to consist of 'wow! look what I got cheap on eBay' (insert your own 'pot/kettle/black' comment here). A crumbly 924 and a XJS-wheeled XJ40 are just not exciting, at all. Contrast with the older reports about Simon's Anglebox & 205 or Bryn's toys to see what I mean.
The obsession with race-replica's and metro's/maestro's/montego's is just irritating. Why do they shun cars with other influences? It's a broad church, and currently retro cars is hiding in the pews scratching cocks into the seats when they should be ranting from the pulpit!
There are 'trends' coming and going all the time and they just seem oblivious to them.....
