I often fantasize about owning an american retro car. But I'm scared by the size of them etc. What would people reccomend as a first one?
Conditions: Smallish (Well by American Sizes anyway) Preferably quite cheap Good Parts availabilty Easily "hopped Up" Not bothered about it having a v8 as long as one will go in there ;D

Dodge Dart FTW, or how about an AMC Pacer? Dunno what the Pacers are like body panel wise though.

Can never work out if i like mustangs or not, not mad keen on that one but they can look alright. A Camaro would be a current bargain IMO still bigish though.
I feel some cars are too big for a our congested roads, doesnt stop me despirately wanting one though!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Ford Falcons are not that big and have definite Retro style thanks to being cricuit raced etc. I suspect some of the more cooking models, 4 doors etc would be cheap-ish.

I quite fancy some sort of late 70's RWD 4 door saloon with a V8!

But I'm scared by the size of them etc. What would people reccomend as a first one? cgi.ebay.co.uk/1971-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Malibu_W0QQitemZ280012544005^^ that's one to get. Smallish (Well by American Sizes anyway) - check Preferably quite cheap - check (Find a cheaper proper muscle car) Good Parts availabilty - Everything is available www.ss396.com/chevelle_64-72.htmEasily "hopped Up - check Not bothered about it having a v8 as long as one will go in there ;D- Check. This is my first yank and it's great. Disc brakes, proper supension (no cart springs here), power steering, electric everything. all the parts i've needed have arrived within a few daysand it's cheaper to insure than my old golf gti. The downside is it doesn't fit in parking spaces at tesco's and averages about 15mpg.

Quite like the look of this its RHD as well! I imagine I could drop a 5.0 v8 in there? Fox body Mustangs are quite small (smaller than same year camaro's, Firebird's) and did come with 5.0 ltr V8's. They are very popular in the states due to there light weight and tunable engines. People are running stupidly quick 1/4 mile times with these. Third generation Camaro/Firebird are also a good bet if you are worried about size. This is my old one. This was a '91 with a fuel injected 350 Chevy engine and overdrive automatic box. Was fairly quick as standard and gave good economy as well. Sean
