Namely the Daihatsu Hijet, Vauxhall/Bedford Rascal and Suzuki Supercarry. I am moving out to Spain next year and have decided that one of these would be ideal for property maintenance etc. Plus i think they look like quite cheeky little things. Are they any good, and do they all have overheating problems?

Suzuki Carry's.... they just DO NOT die. I had one as a company vehicle once, it had been mercilessly thrashed since the day it left the showroom about 8 years before I got it, I mercilessly thrashed it then, and to this day it is still running like clockwork, and still gets thrashed mercilessly. Apparently when they finally do spit the dummy, they ain't worth repairing. Also... the knack to doing burnouts in them is to accelerate in 1st as fast as you can, then left foot brake really viciously, which lifts the rear end off... keep the loud pedal buried and they'll soon light up the factory issue 155/SR12's with ease! All on private property of course

Aren't they 4x100? There's one running round the Sheff on Alley Cats - it looks Qwality111! Our local MOT place has got a pickup with Peterbilt stylee chrome exhaust stacks behind the cab, avec soot caps that flip open when you rev the engine

The Daihatsu Hi-Jet is built by Piaggio, you can also buy from Piaggio in the UK now. www.uk.vtl.piaggio.com/ and they come with all sorts of body styles and even alloy wheel choice! The were also available with a dredfully slow 4cyl diesel 1 litre diesel, not the Daihatsu 3cyl 1 litre TD which was a hoot. The Piaggios have Diesel, Petrol and LPG options from new. You can buy the Daihatsu van version here with the 1300 engine and also factory fitted LPG. The Bedford (also badged Vauxhall on some) Rascal vans are no more than a Suzuki Supercarry in charity shop clothing. Some early ones had Isuzu engines too. They rot terrible around the front strut mounts, so open the drivers door and give it good prod.

Excellent! Has it done any quarters and if so what time? Looks very quick. I suppose it weighs not much more than a Bike?

I know it ran 14.1 but was really undergeared so was flat out by not much past the halfway mark. I'd guess sorted with proper gearing it would have run in the low 13's. He sold it a while back though and i don't know who owns it now.

I had a Hi Jet 1.3 MPI 16V The bollux! Managed to squeeze nearly a ton out of it,downhill on the A3,nearly shat myself as the handling is rather interesting at that speed used to say to my mates,if you stand back and squint, the front kind of looks like an Evo 6 Never convinced anyone mind! as you can see though its biggest fan was my son ;D
