I have been reading this forum for while, and now I think I should share to you one of my many classic car projects. I had Volvo Amazon Sedan 1969, but I wanted estate version because it's quite rare nowadays (only 61799 cars made in 62-69). And only 1399 cars were made in 1962. my car has body number 1161. -62 was also only year when estate was called "Volvo 221". Car has B18 engine and M40 gearbox. I bought this car in february 2009 from guy from local Volvo-forum here in finland. I paid 230 euros for it. At time of purchase car did run, but had no brakes or clutch. It had many modifications made by past owners. Example: New wirings (all wires same color), home made interior (floormats, doorcarts, seats). Car has lots of rust, witch you can see from pictures to below. Pictures from March 09: outside: enginebay: interior: front fenders, etc.: wiring: rust pics: bought the NOS Volvo 221 emblem to front fender from swedish ebay (tradera.se): The car stood untouched until september 2009, when is started rip the interior out. The floormats were soaked with water, even thou they did not had any water that summer from outside of car: and soaked floormats equals lots of rust:

Then the car was worked next time in February 2010. First I removed everything else from inside of car. starting with rear seats and spare wheel cover: in march 2010 I welded some support to the body gastank off: it had small hole: And took also rear bumper off. In May 2010 I started to pull engine off took the dash off: pulled wires off made by some home electrician engine bay looking kinda empty: In june 2010 started to scrape off undersealing. you can imagine how cripsy is 40 year old undersealing. I scraped all sealing off with this hand tool,it took about 5 hours: Next I took of rear hatches, headliner, windshield and rear windows. The state of frame rails looks scary, but only ones in front are in bad shape.

Looking good! However an important thing to note is that the reinforcement inside the centre sill & above the jacking points isn't included with the replacement panels. Not many people even know it is there, as it isn't visible in the parts books, and has usually rusted away completely on sills that need repair. The reinforcement is a folded triangular bracket that spreads the load from the jack, so that the base of the centre sill doesn't distort.

One day at week we had time to weld the rotten member: Saturday 8.10: I found remains of inner sill jack point support: Then we welded one patch to front floor, here its tacked in place: Same spot welded properly: I test fitted the front fender: Couple of holes fixed: Sunday 9.10: Couple of more holes fixed: Next I was time to close the cap between a-pillar and the new side panel: Here it is before: And after: Here is our version of the inner sill jack support, its cut off from pallet carrier from Kasten pallet rack More will follow soon...

Very dedicated work. Much admiration. I'm keen to see where you take this project once you get a solid chassis.
