yo! seen that one on ebay and i like the roof chop look loads plus i like coupes. I'm guessin these are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony wibblepoo since i don't recall seeing one on ebay lately or on the road at all. would i be a fantasist to think one might turn up sub £1000? i know theres the one on ebay for £500bin but its a sharkey description to say the least and it looks like theres rust under the vinyl on the roof. please school me on these abit, i like the look, they would look hella cool lowered me thinks!

I reckon if you wait a bit you'll get one for less than £1k, will probably need some fettling though and they are quite rust-prone round the screen and roof pillars.

As I keep repeating about these beasties:
They're great!
They're worth what the owner thinks they should be...So you might get a gem for a grand or a snotter for eight grand.
And remember: it's Swedish mechanicals wrapped in Italian tin...So expect it to have rust ticked on the options list from new.

i see thanks for the words of wisdom. ive been doing some digging on this and they apparently get only 20mpg and as you say rot out.
shame cause i like the idea of a badass looking car like that, but preferably without wazy mpg and rust everywhere.

you could get one and evict the old PRV V6 engine and auto box, replacing it with a cheap and simple but more modern volvo unit, like a 740 GLT 16v or one of those 940 light-pressure turbo jobs, or even an ordinary 2.3 from a 240/740, that oughta gain you a fair few MPG.
I agree with your point of view, i'd love one but I know that the PRV V6 auto cannot fail to give you shockingly bad fuel consumption.

yeah could do that plums but I'm not that strong i couldnt lift an engine. it would probably be easier to buy a brick shaped car and chop the roof to get the look maybe? after all its all about what it looks like and whether chicks dig it or not ultimately.
right i think ima forget the 262c idea, ill look into roof chopping now.
i need a slag of a car so bad, i hate the crapper I'm driving at the moment

Like everybody else has said, easy mechanical changes, although pick your motor well as standard 2.3s only do mid 20s anyway, and factor in a possible swap to manual too.
They rot like mad around the b and c pillars as this is were the Swedish work stopped and Italians stepped in... I've got one near me that I tried to buy five years ago, it had holes then, now you can run your hand through the sheet metal around the base of the c pillar. Sub 1K will be hard work for anything worth looking at, but I've always fancied buying a rotten one and chopping the roof off as it's got a cut down screen already. Slam and rims for the win.

I like them.
A possible contender for the most crazy styling ever. Always makes me think that they are 'armour plated' and should have a bren-gun installation on the roof.

I reckon that a PRV with a modern ECU would do OK in the fuel economy stakes.
Sweet mercy the 262 is an ugly car though.

I have one, although I've only really driven it back from collecting it last year (bought it by mistake on eBay).
They were styled in-house at Volvo, assembled by Bertone in Italy. They rot terribly anywhere the Italians were let near them - basically everywhere from the pillars up. Mine needs a bit of work on the scuttle, doors and C-pillars, but otherwise is not too bad.
It needs a tune-up, but cruised back up the M1 at 90-100 without a problem, did about 19-20 mpg in the process from memory. I think the PRV V6 is probably unfairly maligned, especially in its later forms.

The PRV V6 is a motor with an unjustified reputation, expecially the later 'even-fire' version, but MPG isn't a strong point.

A shame they never actually produced it as the V8 it was intended to be ...
