The problem is that there's a great deal of stuff which ISN'T model specific but generic. Iike, for example... if I want to buy a steering wheel to suit a classic car I could have searched for "steering wheel" in the classic car parts catagory and it would have pulled up stuff mostly suited to my needs. Now I'd have to wade though tons of tacky Ripspeed tat aimed at yoofs in Saxos which will now be listed to suit everything as, without a boss kit, it's a universal part.
Searching for "wheels" in the classic car parts section was a winner too as it filtered out most of the modern dross.
Bottom line is, this is all about Ebays wish to become a one stop shop for new stuff, not an action site for old second hand tat. It's been going that way for a long time. I already have used ebid and whilst slower, I have sold quite a few things. I think when I start having a massive clear out next year it'll be going via ebid as unless people start making the effort to use such services, they'll never be an alternative to ebay.

Personally i think they should have sent out a survey. Rather than just assuming we don't browse by category. People have browsed by category pretty much since it began in 1995 (well you'd assume anyway)
I use ebay for everything, because its convenient and you can get stuff on there you'd have difficulty finding elsewhere, but now getting classic car spares is gunna be a right pain. I might try and get to more autojumbles instead.

ebay don't give a sh1t about the small-time private seller dealing in second hand dross. they havent done for a while, and are making it very obvious. there money is made with businesses selling through there, and ebay shops.
the haphazard selling habits of someone having a garage clearout and selling a few items once a year means nothing to them, as its not regular money. everything is geared towards busness sellers mostly selling new items.
ebay really has gone to the wall, what with the utter morons it seems to attract, the now 20% flat rate fees(knock 20% off your sale price and youd quite often be better off selling elsewhere and taking less), not being able to neg feedback buyers, the loss of the classic car parts section, and all the other 'improvements' theyve made, plus the ridiculous seller restrictions they're now imposing. my girlfriend had a seller restriction placed on her account because she listed 20 items of second had clothing at once and they tried to claim she was a business!!! how unusal is it for a woman to have 20 items of clothing they don't want languishing in the bottom of the wardrobe? not very id say!!
problem is, there really isnt a viable alternative at the mo, as nowhere else gets enough traffic for things to sell at a good price (for the seller!), so no-one wants to list their stuff on them for it to sell for jolly pain in the backside all. catch 22 really.

I swear I can get 99% of items on there (Be it new or used) for less if I look around locally, as everybody just puts their price then adds 20% or so to cover the fees!! problem is, there really isnt a viable alternative at the mo, as nowhere else gets enough traffic for things to sell at a good price (for the seller!), so no-one wants to list their stuff on them for it to sell for jolly pain in the backside all. catch 22 really. That sums it up nicely, I listed my other half's I-Pod on there & they removed it as I had it in the wrong section (MP3 players in Consumer Electronics section). I emailed them & they said it was a mistake on their part & to try again which I did & it got removed again. Then tried to list some designer clothing (again stuff the Mrs didn't want anymore) & it was removed for being counterfeit(?) I know it wasn't because I paid for the stuff at the bloody shop. I'll have to look at this eBid site aswell.

Just been on their chatty/forum type thing. Seems many peeps not happy. As an answer to someone elses point about not liking change, if it worked properly things would be dandy. But I've tried several different ways the last 2/3 days and you still get all the rubbish I don't want to look at. Not only that you just get used to how something is then they go and change it. It may be fine for those who are computer wizzards, but for those are a little bit slower in working things out, its nothing but a** ache all the time. Its expensive to list and sell now and basically I agree with Dez, with how its heading.

the guy who complained about BMW 2002 parts being mistaken for parts for a 2002 BMW is missing the point. It doesn't matter what you put in the title. You search:
Make: BMW Model: 2002 Year: 1973
and it brings the parts up....
Yeah, this works best for people volume listing as has been said it takes some effort to list all applications for a £2 air filter or whatever.
If they can make it work better then its the way to do it.
The problem is making it easy to use to list correctly.
In the mean time people who don't bother to list correctly will find a lot of sales and bids lost.
Its OK to whine about eBay but point out a better system out there I can use?
The world is full of morons - I used to have them phone me up when I advertised stuff in classic car classified ads and AdMag etc. Now you get them by email.
And seriously, I know a guy who wants to fund and develop an "online autojumble". problem is can't think how it would end up any different to eBay.
Development costs need to be made back, running costs are pretty huge too. Its no small undertaking.
Give me some ideas on how it might work, I'll feed them back to him...
Whatever we did build - I know you guys would hate it and complain we were - shock horror - trying to make our investment back or even - sin of sins - make a profit...

This is probably why more stuff ends early on ebay than actually sells!

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but one of the handiest tips when searching on ebay is to put a minus (-) sign infront of words you don't want to come back in the results eg if you want Hillman Imp parts but do not want to see any Avenger parts try a search like Hillman Imp -avenger. It really narrows down the dross as you will only get results which actually say Hillman and Imp.

INdeed, this is the search I use to find classic mini wheels
mini wheels -moto, -fuse, -fuses, -tool, -tools, -koolart, -steering, -14, -15, -16, -17, -18, -19, -20, -bmw
That gets it down to under 300 items nationally

Ebay if your watching I will not be selling anything more on the site because my buyers can no longer find my parts with the curse word that now gets included in the search. eBay are almost certainly not watching. Do what RatDat said: I suggest that everyone sends ebay an email voicing your concerns. If enough people do it they might realise what a dumb move this is. Maybe they won't do anything, but unless they get feedback they won't know so it's worth doing. Dunno, I reckon your car would be epic with a lorry engine, Paul That would be sweet. Would definitely be the only one in the UK...

No one ever listens. They just go on and make something else worse. Me and my dad are both done selling on there. Seems like they realy are fecking themselves over as each week goes by.....

EDIT: I just checked some of my previous idems that were already listed in the classic car parts section prior to the change........... and everything is now just in Other parts!!! Brillient!!
