With me going Uni the car will be a pure toy really so won't be doing milage. Therefore I don't care about mpg in any way really. Also I am the sort of person to try to fix things myself and always have a good go at it if something is wrong. I have whatever I sell my Focus for (~£3.5k) to spend. Now onto the cars. 1984-89 Mk1 MR2Now I personally find the Mk1 the best out of the different age MR2's. The space isn't an issue with it also as I hardly ever have much luggage. ~126bhp 1.6 16v straight 4 (5 speed) 0-60 = 8 seconds ~950kg 1973-80 Triumph Dolomite SprintBit different but I have always liked them ever since Mohinder introduced me to them. I am going to see Lashout UK's one next week hopefully so I can see one in more detail then you can at a car show. I love the interior with solid pine front dash. May have to fit retractable seatbelts, wing mirrors and head rests though if the one I buy does not have them. Can get the power fairly easy to 180bhp which makes it really quite quick. 127-150bhp 2.0 16v straight 4 (4 speed OD) 0-60 = 8.7 seconds ~975kg 1966-73 Triumph GT6The oldest one out of the cars on the list. The sound they make is just brilliant, heard one power it and oh my it was nice! They are very small cars with not that much space inside them but I can manage with it not being the most practical car about. I will not want to get a Mk1 (1966-68) due to the rear suspension was not the best on them, meant it suffered with lots of lift off oversteer. Another car to gain power fairly easy, though I don't know as much about this engine as i do with the Dolomites. ~105bhp 2.0 straight 6 (4 speed OD) 0-60 = 9.4 seconds ~810kg So what are your opinions then?

One of the Trums. Just depends wether you'd need 2 or 4 seats more often, and like to arrive at your destination a) cool, b) comfortable and c) still able to hear ;D

Sorry, in my excitement I gave no reason - I think GT6's are less plumped for compared to the other two. They're beautiful cars and like you say sound fantastic. £3.5k will get you a nice one, and they're easy to tune. They look the dogs, the interior is luxurious ish and they're great fun to drive. Do it.

Hmm I haven't had chance to look round a GT6 yet. Need to have a good gander at one, hopefully one will goto the next Ashby Folville meet.
500tops, What sort of cars you thinking? Remember I'm only 18 and will have 1 NCB....

Welcome to the fold, dude We'll have you craving oldskool J tin and brown cars before you know it *Adds one to the 'OCUK people converted to R-R' rosta* If it were my money, I'd get a GT6...I really like the idea of one sucking through two sets of Triumph Speed Triple throttle bodies...running an aftermarket ECU...and possibly a blower... *n

Haha yup penski, quite a few from OcUK has gone to the dark side. That plan for the GT6 sounds interesting, any idea what sort of improvement that would do to the power at all? I don't think Ican have a blower quite yet, even though I'd love one. Pffft damn you're quick Lewis, he only posted 3 mins before you! At this rate if I do pick a Dolly Sprint there will be none left! A worry I have is will a GT6 be much faster than the car I already got? I have a 107bhp 1.6 Focus so not too sure whether I will feel any improvement with it.

I'm not being biased here, just speaking from personal experience..... a sorted Sprint will easily be a more capable machine than a 'standard' GT6. A GT6 is also not 'easily' tunable - yes, you can do fancy filters, ignition and exhaust, maybe eeking 120HP out of it on a rolling road but after that, you're into serious big bucks or a slightly lower revving 2.5 conversion. They're great engines though Also, GT6's can be a real 'mare on long journeys - I know which I'd go for but they're both great cars but I'd certainly rather live with a Dolly Case in point, with power outputs. A standard Sprint would put upwards of 120HP out of the factory, and with a good tune and a plain sports exhaust, see 150BHP on the rollers. A standard GT6 is ~100BHP depending on model and you'd have a lot of investment to push it anywhere near the Sprint. Would probably sound better though

Well Lewis if you fix yours then you can show me what it can do. hint hint. Yeah thats the thing that keeps drawing me towards the Dolly. The size and sound of the GT6 is drawing me to that though. This might sound crazy, How easy is it to tune a Stag?

Big bucks. 145 as standard, giving you 9 seconds to 60 and ......well, you just don't want to try. You can get a big bore exhaust, decent ignition kit and a Holley 4 barrel, electronic fan, will probably see you 160, maybe 170 - but I don't think a Stag will suit your driving style - they are gentle, smooth cruisers and don't do 'driving aggressively' particularly well You used to be able to get uprated cams for Stags. You can still get tubular manifolds mind, but yea. Serious money for the lot. Even the Holley kit is 500 folding brand new.

Are you saying I drive aggressively? Well you could be correct! Ahh sounds worse than the GT6 for tuning. I will be wanting to do stuff on the car aswell, I love to tinker with stuff. (no laughing at the back) I wish the GT6 had the tunability of the Dolly! Now does the Dolly handle much worse than the GT6?

Dolly (Sprint) handles much better than a GT6 as standard. That isn't saying the GT6 is not great fun to drive, it is. Just it's harder to kill yourself in a Sprint than it is a GT6.

Don't forget the Vitesse - same running gear as the GT6 (sound/performance etc) but a bit more space and usually a bit cheaper on purchase.
