Hey folks! As I'm sure a few are aware, ive been looking for a car for months, well this popped up really nearby so I had to have it. Despite the two or three minis I have already, none are even close to roadworthiness, and seeing as i'll be passing my test soon, I needed a first car. So bought for £1200 on ebay on the 18th and picked up earlier today I can honestly say I'm chuffed. Colour is a peugeot gold, isnt perfection but its not bad at all. Tiny amount of work and it'll be perfect Many many spares, including new bits and a new bottle of 20w50. The guy was in the army and being posted abroad hence the sale and he threw loads in for free. First modification, innocenti gearstick gaiter. I'm dead happy, hope you approve!

Ok i know someone has already claimed a liking to the plywood door cards, but i had some blue ones lying around anyway and i thought they were horrid so they came off. They were obviously a 5 minute jobby cos they were wonky, and they didnt bother using clips, so they riveted them on instead. Drilling the rivets out was a pain in the enough, but they'd also (as we found out) used a screw to hold the window winder that had the wrong thread and thus it wouldnt come out. We ended up drilling it out in the end and i need to source a new screw. Also manage to install some pull handles, cos it didnt have any, just drilled some new holes to take the ones off my later mini and presto, looks perfect. Anyway, waffled a bit, heres todays work: Removed this horrendous fake walnut plastic parcel shelf which had warped and all sorts Replaced it with a vynil one i had lying around Properly finished door Other door needing handle sorting. Replacement binnacle with chrome surround. Ive got a mk1 speedo i wish i could use but the mileage is way off and i don't wanna clock it. Anyway, i know people don't seem to take any interest in minis on this forum but its worth updating in case someone reads it.

Currently driving a '68 Karmann Ghia as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Oh i approve of those, glad you kept the wood trim on the clubby too!
Only downside to this one, is that it has oversills. But i plan to rectify that eventually when i learn to weld.

surprised how well the blaze yellow paint suits that. looks like it could have been a standard choice colour. i had two minis myself but both before i could drive so never driven them properly. will have to get another one day.

Yeah thats what i liked about it!, even though its a modern colour it still looks 70s. Ok, todays work, doesnt look like much but still look me 4 and a half hours! Dash liners are a bit expensive for what they are, so i started to make the tray bit, because thats within my skill level. Started by making a cardboard one: Then made a wooden one, it looks a bit shoddy but once covered in black vinyl it shouldnt be a problem Took this boot liner out, need to cut a new one because that bit of MDF was warped and mouldy so ive removed the carpet and need to get some more wood, probably plywood. And finally, sorted the grille surround. The thing that took me almost an hour was the seatbelts. The originals didnt work (had no inertia) so i had to swap in some newer ones from my other mini, which no matter how i placed them, they had a twist somewhere, ended up having to twist them round where they hung on the pillar. they're fine now, but was a right pain to fix. Hopefully more soon, need to order some small bits then its onto soundsystems and the like.

This really makes me wish minis weren't so expensive over here. That would be a 6-7000 dollar car in the USA.
Totally jealous sir.

Just clicked your newly made signature link... Nice little mini I thought it was going to be one you already had, Didnt expect you to have gone and bought a whole new car Its a nice looking little car too. Above you said it has oversills? Whats that then? Does it mean someone welded a sill on over the old one?

Just clicked your newly made signature link... Nice little mini I thought it was going to be one you already had, Didnt expect you to have gone and bought a whole new car Its a nice looking little car too. Above you said it has oversills? Whats that then? Does it mean someone welded a sill on over the old one? Oversills are a quick fix to get it through an mot or whatever. Original sills look like this: Theyve got 'vents' so to speak, which let moisture out, oversills are something you slap over the top of old rusty sills to sell or get it through an MOT, which are about twice the size, fit over the top of the original rusty sills and arent vented. So sometimes people stick them over the top of horrendously bad sills, which are already rusty and cos they arent vented it gets even worse under there. You can probably slap two on in about an hour which is quicker then removing the old one and putting a new one on. Its not the end of the world as I think it might have just been a garage buying the wrong thing, the previous owner never did any of the MOT welding himself, always paid to have it done, so when I eventually learn to weld I'm gunna swap the proper sills on, ive got some already, just a case of learning to weld. Appologies for the essay, but I'm glad you like the mini nonetheless!

Great car!!! Would love another mini!! How you getting on with the Bus steering wheel?? They are a bit marmite, you either love 'em or hate 'em. I loved mine... was great for parking and really kept the retro look. All I'd do to that is put edge trim round the arches and the gutter, put a set of reverse rims on and enjoy the roundabouts!!! PS: I seem to remember that the Mk1 speedo fixed to the binnacle differently. If you do decide to convert, check this as you may need a different binnacle. I'll leave this Mk1 here...

Bus steering wheel is brilliant. Never thought i'd like one but I really do.
Mk1 speedos arent differently fixed, they have a nicer design but I don't want to clock the milage on the one ive got so I'm leaving this slightly later one in.

Looking good, and in spite of the inappropriate wood the last owner seems to have cared for it. Look forward to seeing its evolution in your own care.
