Awesome off road. Pretty much everything has been and can be done. The sj410 has a lower gear ratio transfer box. 1.6 vitara engine would be my choice of engine. Suspension wise I would go Spring over axle conversion with Procomp shocks and some 35" tyres.
Try Difflock.com cos its a great 4x4 forum

Fantastic ofF road !
Suzuki ‘Jimny’ by other name these ‘Jeeps were originally the idea of ‘Hopestar’ which Suzuki bought out in 1968. Originally called the 360 (a two stroke), then in 1970 the LJ10 (LJ = Light Jeep), 1972 the LJ20, ’77 the LJ80 and LJ81 Pick up. In 1980 the SJ10 (SJ = Suzuki Jeep) , then SJ410 in 1982 and SJ413 in 1984. Even the badged as a ‘Jimny’ today is a good offroader and when these to become older I’m sure they will be a good source of FUN!
SJ410 can be underpowered
Bodies rot terribly, usually at all four corners, but chassis’s usually quite good .
Carburettors can give problems.
GREAT VEHICLES

I reckon it would be great to lower one right down and fit very skinny lo pro tyres to it. Rear wheel drive, Swift engine. Proper go kart!
I had an old 1 litre and it was a bit slow but amazing off road and very solid.
Is yours 1.0 or 1.3?

The 4WD guys here have a thing for bolting Datsun A15 engines into them, they make supremely effective offroaders with this combination.

That's weird, I was just thinking about SJ jeeps the other day. There was a big hoo-haa some years back about them being very unstable on corners / in accidents... but then if you wanted something with go-kart handling I doubt a SJ would fit your criteria! ;D I'd really like one

as most people say they are fantastic offroad.. watch the transferbox mount though they are commen for catching on stuff and pull the mounts off! the engines are not bad for a 1000cc but are prone to bigend failure and can break rings easily and head gasket probs.... change the oil as often as u can afford and they will live on.. but are hard to find second hand because of these probs. i had one bought it for 50quid... and took the engine out sold that for 140quid !! no probs.. i then fitted a bike engine.. never finished it though..(usual story..) lots of people reverse the rims and bolt them back on to give a slightly wider track for more stability. cornering fast on the road CAN tip them over... but they are great fun..

I had one a while back - took a complete disco in the back! Great fun if a little slow. Engine trouble killed it in the end.

I've had two,410 and 413. When the Engine on the 410 went belly up,I bought a rusty Suzuki "whizzkid" and swapped the engine(Same block different ancillaries) trouble is they're as rare as hens teeth now

here is some food for thought, as I've got my scanner working! lowrider- see all the legendary rides surrounding it in the top pic thats bruisercapri's old sri cavvy in the lower one. and yes, I carried a torch for them then, and still do now. all thanks to this one (excuse the photo of a photo, but the pic won't fit on my scanner bed ) inspirational! according to the accompanying text, it has 3" de-arched springs and employs other lowering practices. it also has 10" wide kmc alloys its
