Nice love the mk2 ghias and this one will go well to. Good news on your Dad and his car is ace. I had a 100e once with a 2.0 pinto, wish I had it now.
cheers fella.
So onto making it a little more hardcore, initial plans were to stick a standard-ish XE in, with carbs, MBE ECU and a rwd exhaust manifold, tried and tested method, this plan went straight out the window after a blast in a friends car. Pics are more interesting than me rambling on though..
car was stripped of all things crossflow
was in remarkable condition though
Miss this workshop
wanted a smooth engine bay so proceeded to weld up all the holes, there was alot more than i care to remember
as i was chassis mounting the engine the x-member was modded, engine mounts removed and double skinned bottom.
This was bought to make room in the bay, awful fit, all pedals needed modding...Rally Re-Design
Parts delivery....
Big day, the engine was ready!!
mock up straight away, was so excited by this point!
in!
was time for bodyworking the engine bay, now i don't do body work, i just don't have the patience, luckily my friend Dazza finds it enjoyable (nutter) so he was drafted in fed takeaway and beer until it was done.
id never sprayed a car with a proper gun and compressor, but gave it a whirl, advised to bar coat it so on with the bar coat
Primer
at this point has to move into a smaller workshop with my mate
shocking quality picture of the top coat sorry
engine launched back in
had to try the carbs on
Wiring, i like this, maybe I'm a nutter... i used to do it for a living. so i tucked and hid all the wiring in the bay and a discreet ecu install.
Interior was lashed back in just to make use of the dwindling summer...or something like that. Carpet didnt fit as i modded the tunnel, but seemed to have lost the pics from that. The pictures are flattering on the interior.... notice the obscene angle of the rally design pedal box? shocking
a friend TIG'd me up battery tray and fuel pump
first start
first drive
as my father was disabled with very limited mobility he taught himself things to pass the time, one of those things was air brushing, so he done me a custom cam cover.
essentially finished under the bonnet....ive changed the alternator bracket
So the engine was in and that takes us upto my first post. i drove the car around like that for a while, it was kept at the workshop which was a fair trek so a closer one was sourced complete with sensible daily.
The 3:54 diff was brilliant for top speed but didnt suit the cam setup in the engine. After one particularly hairy top speed run i decided enough was enough and stuck a 4:1 in it, much better
It was St Georges day and we were bored....
on the rollers, a friend filmed this on a potato i think. made 236BHP 203ft/lbs
no one took up my offer of a thrill ride unfortunately
pretty much rocked around in it looking like this, surprised a fair few folk in seemingly "better" cars, notable scalps 911 convertible, M5, M3 Evos etc. too much fun
Thats pretty much when it got chucked into the corner of the workshop as life events dictated its neglect, i did start sanding it down at one point and tried on some new wheels.
but time restraints meant it didnt go far, but i have some awesome mates who put it in primer for me, just to give it some protection, i didnt know they were doing it and was genuinely taken back by it. Awesome! unsuprisingly i don't have pics of this, but it looked like this
the eagle eyed will notice the myriad of greasy hand prints all over it, this was due to a last minute gearbox fix before a trackday at silverstone, unfortunately my phone containing all those pictures committed suicide under a gearbox....stupid thing
the trackday was in feb 14, and was the first time the car was used in 2 years, didnt miss a beat. proud of the old girl. however its the last time it was used too, which brings us upto the latest work
