She's looking really posh now mate!
I still think you need to make more noise though!
Yeah I couldn't live in town again... too many people crammed into a small ugly space, I'd end up going postal!

Well after a long couple of months of thought, I've decided that my journey with the rx7 ends here. I've really enjoyed owning her and restoring her and driving her but its time for a change. I've had a 'thing' for late 60s / early 70s Italia coupes for a long time and I think it's time to follow that path. I can't afford to run two cars to regretfully Rexanne is up for sale, and the hunt for a Alfa GT Junior or Lancia fulvia begins!! buy me buy me buy me

I'm sad that I won't be seeing any more updates on this car, I think it's my favourite FB ever but hey, a Fulvia! That is nice. Alfas are a bit too obvious in my taste, and look less subtle.

With luck someone on here will want to buy the rx7 and keep us updated with her progress There's various ups and downs for the whole Alfa VS Lancia question. In terms of cool factor as you say Lancia is less obvious and to those in the know cooler. They take all the silly quirks that are appealing about italian cars to the extreme. I've got a bit of a connection to the Fulvia too as my dad had one when I was a baby so it was the first car I ever rode in! I also like the sound of the little v4 it's got a great burble and is apparently more frugal than the Alfa. The Fulvia came out of top in period road tests too. It also looks like getting a Fulvia in the condition I'm after (road going but with plenty for me to get stuck into) is easier as most GT Js in this condition are being snapped up for GTA replicas and sold for huge money. On the downside for the Fulvia is leaf springs, FWD and lack of parts/support. The last one I stood next to also seemed bigger than I expected, maybe it's just because it was stock height etc. I've test driven a GT J and really liked it and it was that test drive that pushed me to actually advertise my Rx7. I think once the rx7 has sold then I'll just go shopping based on condition and price and see which one grabs my heart.

Cheers, whats the point in having dreams if you're not gonna at least try to follow them. I shall keep everyone informed about the ups and down of the Italian vehicle lifestyle. But first someone has to buy the rx!

Well I can offer a small update, not exciting pictures though. Today I stuck a new pair of front brake pads in, as they were getting a bit low. I also welding an extra hanger on to the exhaust, as once in a while over big bumps the exhaust would knock. Now the car is quieter over the bumps and stops better!

I love fulvias. When I had the rotorvette, about 2007, hannah and I went to Witney, Oxon, to view a fulvia that a customer of the bike shop I worked in owned. His wife wanted it gone andbhe was into bikes so had no heart for it anymore. It was mot'd, taxed, solid (really!..) and had a full engine rebuild by some fella known in the lancia circles for building a great engine. It also came with a set of campag alloys!
The cost- 1000 quid. We went a test drive and I was unimpressed. It sounded nice but was slow after having hopped out of rotary chevette. We walked away. Biggest ever 'car not buying mistake' I have ever made and I kick myself each morning for it. I have looked since for one and never ever have I seen such a bargain.
They are wrong wheel drive but they are so cool. I wish I knew this back then!
Go for it.
Or how about sticking a nice little V6 into your FB.......

Damn that was a shame Alex. As time goes by looking at more and more photos and reading more and more my heart is being taken by the Fulvia, but my head is saying the Alfa is more sensible. As you say the Fulvia is only 90hp with not many options for upgrades without huge expense, its wrong wheel drive, there's no factory support in the UK and hasn't been for 30 years, it's leaf sprung..... Whereas the Alfa is correct wheel drive, 90-125hp depending on model and much more easily upgraded to more, theres a huge network of specialists and support for them with almost all parts remanufactured and available. Still no interest on my rx7 sale yet so it's all pipe dreams for now.... I'd be all over this if my rx had sold: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lancia-Fulvia-Series-2-1972-LHD-/130786085460?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1e73754a54

You own a rotary and you want to go for the sensible option? Nah, that can't be. I heard the Fulvia is an absolute blast on B-roads and don't see why it wouldn't be (rally titles and all that). The Alfa is gorgeous but perhaps a little too common now. The Fulvia is a lot more quirky!

Cheers Slacky You own a rotary and you want to go for the sensible option? Nah, that can't be. I think you hit the nail on the head there I've heard good things also about the nimbleness and agility of Fulvias and how much fun they are on B roads, the sort of roads where a power deficit is never going to show and where you'll never be doing any crazy RWD antics unless you're a professional rally driver, the sort of roads that are all around me... So just need someone to buy the Rx7 now then I can go buy a Fulvia!

It certainly stands out amongst the euroboxes doesn't it? not just for the roof line but gold is more brown than any you'd see nowadays. And yeah the back seat isn't exactly generous. I've had 2 adults in the back plenty of times, but its not something you'd wanna do for a long journey, and relies on the fact that I'm only 5'7" so the front seat's a long way forward.

Selling my rx7 seems to be taking a while, so for now normal service shall be resumed! My silly paddle clutch has starting to feel a bit long on the tooth recently, and on top of this I do wonder if it's been putting people off buying her. Whilst I was happy to daily drive it, it wasn't exactly civilised Having taken the old clutch out it showed just how dead it was, I'm surprised it wasn't slipping but it was fine. In the past I've always done clutch changes by pulling the engine out, but I could really be bothered, so went for the bench press the gearbox out from under the car option. It was quicker this way, but I'm glad I had a strong friend to help as it's definitely not a one man job. Anyway new clutch in... Gave the gearbox a quick wipe over too and was pleased to see how shiny it still was! Got it all back together as the daylight died so no pics, not that there's anything exciting to see. The good news is the new clutch works great. It's so much easier to use I can now drive smoothly in traffic again! Result!
