Not yet Run out of paint, run out of money, run out of suitable weather! Payday should come soon and then I'll only be waiting on mother nature. Been putting in some hours welding my Mums mx5 in the mean time, poor thing's more rotten than the rx was!

Now I'm back in the UK I see what you mean by the weather- rain then sun, then rain, then sun, then rain....

I love the optimism, Alex. I'm sure you had at least three too many "suns" in there

No I'm correct. Today in fact we had about 5 minutes of sunshine. I felt hot an took off one layer. then it rained.

It's been a busy old week for me, but with the gathering fast approaching I had to knuckle down and get on with finishing this paint work off. I finished at lunchtime yesterday and the weather was finally going 'sun sun sun', so got home and got straight on with lacquering my rear quarter that I painted last week. Preferably I'd have not driven the car between the two stages but it just wasn't practical. What I wasn't expecting was for half of my local roads to have been 'surface dressed' in other words 'lets shove some tar down and then heap gravel all over it and hope for the best and leave you all with a totally curse word road surface', not only does this mean taking my life in my hands if I decided to ride my motorbike but it also meant the side of my car got coated in tar and my windscreen received a nice new stone chip Anyway with the tar removed I got busy spraying, so the rear quarter is done and just the door to paint. I still had daylight left, and didn't want to start sanding and stuff near the soft fresh paint of the quarter, so time for some mechanicals. The clutch hydraulics have slowly been getting worse recently, so last week I bit the bullet and ordered a new master and slave from the states. Popped them on and it was so much easier to bleed than the old leaky master cylinder and now the clutch bites in exactly the same place every time! Luxury! This was the first in a two stage plan to make my car a little more driveable. The second stage was to re-work the throttle linkage on my throttle bodies. When I initially set-up the throttle bodies I just used the standard Suzuki throttle cam which was much smaller than the cam on the original carb. Combined with the much larger throttle plate area, driving like a normal human being required very careful right foot movement. While rummaging around in the shed for my flare spanner I found an old cam wheel that I think was off my old 2t motorbike. Bit of drilling and welding later it was mounted up. And the good news is I've now got a normal amount of pedal movement. So it's definitely easier to drive now Today the door's time came, and I had help from Ross so for once there's pictures of me actually working. The door came out pretty well really, I got a better finish to the lacquer than on anything I've painted with the gun yet. In that photo it looks like the door is the wrong colour compared to the wing, whereas in fact the wing is the wrong colour! haha. TBh I'm not worried. All the fresh paint needs flatting and polishing now but I'm trying to leave that as late as possible to really let it harden off. The main thing is there's really no rust left now! yaaaaaay!

Excellent stuff. Is it going to be like painting the Forth Bridge now, chasing panels round the car until they're all spot on colour and your technique is impeccable, or are you just going to mop the living hell out of it as is? ;D Interestingly, your clutch slave is different not only from the aftermarket one I got from Ramon but also the one I took off the car to replace. I guess FBs are pretty forgiving regards minor differences in clutch slave design Alex, got sunburnt today. It's summer, two days only. Don't miss it

I'm gonna go wild with 2000grit wet and dry, followed by a good mopping and be happy There is a slight colour variation across some panels but it's not as bad as that photo makes out. The paint was very fresh there and I think it changes colour slightly as it dries properly. That is interesting about the clutch slave. The new one is exactly the same as the one I took off my car?

Here are mine, being different lol. Maybe the angle of the pic makes yours look different to my new replacement; might concievably be the same. But the one I took off is AFAIK the original and markedly differs. Weird. You obviously got a nice shiny new pronger to work the clutch fork, too (dunno the official name for it). Jealous now, I had to re-use my manky old rusty one EDIT: just looked again now I found the photo and nahh, those are undeniably three different slave cylinders. Wow. Like, who knew? ;D

That's looking really smart even without the lacquer.
Did you mount the throttle cam eccentrically to get a non-linear throttle response? ;-)

Maybe an series 2 vs series 3 issue Lucky? As you say they do all look different. Either way we've both got working clutches now so that's all that matters Mark, cheers mate and indeed I did mount it eccentrically

I'm not going to Shelsley on Saturday, I'll probably still be sorting my paint out for Sunday! and if I get to run the hill on Sunday I've already got requests for passenger rides. But I'm sure we could find a time. I'll PM you.

I'm in Oxford as I type- looking out the window at huge rainfall. Bless the English summer...
I'll be at RRG this year- riding my bike over on Friday afternoon. Will you be there Mark?
(as usual we are superb at hijacking this thread eh!)

(as usual we are superb at hijacking this thread eh!) You're cycling from Oxford to RRG in an english summer? Dude being the right way up must have made the blood leave your brain!! If you get knackered, stop at Staunton for a cuppa! I don't think I'm going to RRG, I never got organised to get a ticket. Doh! :-( PS Hijack? No, I think of this as our thread now, that occasionally gets some nice rx7 pics posted ;-)
