A while ago I came across this, and for the price I couldn't say no. Even though I had nothing to attach it to, at least nothing that'll get close to any water in ages It's retro, powerful, cheap and light, having no starter, generator and being 2 stroke. I even got 2 spare props with it! I had planned to hide it somewhere until a fitting boat appreared cheap enough. But somehow the stars aligned and my uncle came to the conclusion he don't have the time to fix and enjoy this tiny little thing he has had sitting around a while.. I didn't have to think about it for too long before it was on it's way home ;D Just needs a night or two of work, a lick of paint and a few parts and it's good to go! (how many times have we heard that one?)

I've been a avid reader of your thread, would love something old and wooden myself, preferably with an inboard v8, but they're a bit out of my budget at the moment ;D Although 60's outboards look cool too, newer outboards look bloody depressing in comparison

I didn't know Volvo made outboards, how many horses does it have? Looks like it will be serious fun!

Nice boat and engine. It looks a nice size on the back of the boat. I would guess somewhere around 45 hp if it is a 2 stroke or about 40 if 4 stroke. Should push the boat along well.
Do you know what hull it is? Looks sort of Fletcher like, but the kick up at the transom is unusual.

It isn't a volvo built engine, volvo bought the company that made monark, cresent and archimedes outboards, the same engine was also branded archimedes penta 600. I've been thought they were named 600/200/75 etc after their horsepower x 0.1, but this one turns out to be 600cc and 50-60hp, whatever that equalls in todays outboard horsepower ratings I have no idea of, as I guess these were dynoed at the crank. As said, it's a two stroke, and weighs almost nothing for the size The hull is a copy of the finnspeed mosquito from the 70's, also branded bella mosquito, or like this one, bella arrow. Apparently the finnspeed one took some kind of record in the 70's, haven't found any other information about it expect that max recomended horsepower is 50 Yes, the rear makes figuring out prop height a bit tricky, but I mounted it at the stock height, as the outboard happens to be a short rigged(whatever it's called in english), quite unusual for the size

Rollered the top matt black tonight. Almost used all of the 2,5l the paintstorist claimed would be enought for the whole boat, including the inside! Sorry for all the phone pics in this thread, i'll try to get some nicer ones when the whole boat is painted

Looks really good. Murdered out boat stylee
As for prop height, it is spot on where it is. There are two leg lengths, long and short. This boat is definately a shorts shaft board. The flat metal plate above the prop should be about level with the base of the transom. In the case of this boat, I think I would take it as the bottom of the hull before the kick up. So the prop height looks right.

You seems to have these things figured out, do you own any boats? Would love some pictures Also, do you have any guidance on sharpening props? I also found out that it has quite a nice prop on it, 13 1/4 x 21 which I figure is good enough for a aluminium propeller

Dude, I had a few back in my 'yoof'. There is a thread on here somewhere with them in.
As for prop, stock props are usually a pretty good starting point. If you find that it revs up quickly under load (like driving round in first gear) then you need a steeper pitched prop. But as I say, that engine with stock prop should see a good lick out of that hull.

I'm contemplating fitting one of the other props I got with it first, as the one that's on there at the moment is a cupped high pitch one, just to know the difference Dude, I had a few back in my 'yoof'. There is a thread on here somewhere with them in. Found it. I like this one Today I painted the underside And sanded the top And rolled on another layer. Still looks like curse word, but it'll do for this summer i'll give it a honest go with some elbow grease and wet sanding tomorrow (this picture is probably a "before" shot iirc, but you get the general idea ;D) I have a can of this laying around, but I think i'll save it until I have a proper finish on the paint. Next time i'll use a spray gun! ;D
