Only one I've driven on your short list is the GTO- great accelaration and neutral handling balance thanks to the 4WD but not something I'd personally pick as a weekend toy as other than the joy of having all that overtaking urge I found it a bit short on thrills IMHO.

Out of those, the Legacy i'd go for. Personally i wouldn't neither would be on my list as they're all too big and clumsy for a 'toy', more cruisers, but then there's no point as they'll do silly speeds only allowed on Autobahns!!

Lots of Peugeots, a few Volvo's and a Sierra...

£3-4K 300ZX TT would be pretty rough wouldn't it? You've to be careful with them because I reckon a lot of people get them as cheap rough imports, realise they can't afford to service them properly and run them into the ground. How about a Legnum VR-4? 2.5L V6, Twin Turbo. Really good spec, you get an AYC diff and all sorts. Nice alternative to the Legacy! Probably a little over budget though.

I know a mate with a Soarer, in his vast experience, he is awestruck by it. big yeah sort of, but the suspension was trickd out a little in J and it is an allround performer i believe. on my list. Legacy or Nissan, sounds cool too but no first hand experience.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Howdy fellors Only reason I'm asking here is there is a broad range of knowledge. il have about 3-4 k to spend I want twin turbo, but whats best? it will be driven purely for weekend fun Mitsibushi GTO Nissan 300ZX Soarer twin Legacy twin Cheers Guys I've done thrash type articles (eight owners and cars at Bruntingthorpe) for Jtuner magazine for each of these apart from the Soarer. What you're looking at are very different cars, the 300 and GTO are quite similar but suffer from different problems, and the Legacy is a more practical motor, and the Soarer more of a cruiser, although there are drift spec ones in Japan. I like 300s, a short wheel base slicktop (fixed roof) should be within your budget and there's quite a few upgrades available from the Skyline range, another popular car so people are always chopping and changing bits, mainly brakes I'm talking here. They do have a slightly shonky image though, and without exception each owner said take somebody with you who knows what they're looking at as you can easily get caught with your pants down. This months Jtuner has the 300 thrash in it, there's Fensports new Gen7 Celica on the cover if you fancy a gander in the newsagents. Either that or look at www.300zx.co.uk/forum. The GT0 or GT in UK guise is a complicated machine, but like the 300 can be bought in NA form for added simplicity, transfer cases can break in higher power cars, but I do prefer the looks and 4WD trans, so it's a very personal thing. I've never been a fan of the Soarer, just don't fancy the look of them, without spending money on rims etc, which can get expensive. They're a GT really, so again it's up to you to be honest with yourself and decide what you want it for. Me I'd go for the Legacy, for the money you'll get a better base car than the others, it's more practical, and you can just about swap everything you'll need off an Impreze WRX or the like to satisfy any tuning needs you might have. They also have a great history from launch, high speed longevity records, driver awards and of course WRC. They are a cracking car and more subtle than the others for added stealthy kicks. The only downside is sub 20mpg, but then you'll get that with all of them on your list. Suuubbbaru. Hmmm

hmmmm! Personal favourite for me is the 300zx. Don't know why as I know nothing about them but recently I've got a real desire to own one someday. Don't like 3000GTO's. Never really agreed with the styling. Soarers are cool. But I would go for the 300.
