This evening has been pretty good, found a bolt that would fit as the last exhaust hanger and then fitted the exhaust completely. Refitted the wheel... and started it up... It does leak a little, but only on the join, so with some exhaust paste and slight adjustment, we should be on to a winner. A couple more pictures for you all: Quite happy with the place the exhaust exits too Anyone know what this is? Says starlite on it...

I think its a power socket , rather like an old world cigarette lighter socket , they were used for parking lights that clipped on the window and stupid 12v kettles etc etc , there were a few makes and IIRC the plugs for them were not interchangeable between these .

Parking light you say? I still have this one that I'm unlikely to use if it's of interest. Cost me £3.70 inc. postage, according to my build thread from nearly 3 years ago, so you can have it for that if you fancy. Drop me a PM if it'll do the job.

Question time: do I need a fog light and do I need a mirror for its MOT?
I have a fog light, but would rather not fit it if I don't have too, I also have a mirror which was fitted to the car when I bought it, but is definately not standard, the mirror obstructs the opening 1/4s if its on.

As long as you have an interior mirror theres no need for any external mirror on a car this age . No requirement for you re. fog lights front or rear , no requirement on seatbelts . No MOT either . You have zero to worry about . PS . Love your car

Never really thought of it that way, but I guess its right, I'm going to get the car looked over by an MOT tester, just to put my mind at ease Awesome, should get it booked in for a "looking over" soon

I have front fogs on my 65 Singer , they arnt even tested , nor is main beam strangely . You can also have red rear indicators and white front indicators , theres no emission test other than visual , basically as long as its solid and runs and has the legal requirement for lights etc your good to go

Awesome seems strange not to test the main beam, I have the white front indicators, glad to hear I don't need to change the bulbs. Its pretty solid, has two small patches on the sills, but I can weld them closed pretty sharpish. Another question, as this was last taxed in 1988 will I be able to go in and simply ask for a free one... or do I have to change the documents? visit DVLA? not sure what happens here, google seems to be full of useful cat images... and nothing on DVLA tax exempt cars. Thanks again

It will be registered as PLG with the DOOVLA , So you will have to get the V5C in your name and then promptly return it back for a taxation class change to historic and MOT exemption . I suspect although I'm not sure you might need an MOT to proove its roadworthy as its been off the road so long otherwise you could drag any old grot from a field and just drive it which seems silly to me . Perhaps have a proper MOT first off , after all it wont fail as such , it cant it doesnt actually need one

Awesome, I will send that off on Tuesday, and see what they say, I'm more than happy to provide one if necessary, I'll let you know how I get on
edit: emailed the helpful people at DVLA in an attempt to find the correct procedure and whether an MOT is required
