Afternoon all, an update dissapeared off to dvla in Exeter yesterday along with my v112 (application for mot exemption) insurance and v5, got myself a nil tax disc and proceeded back to get the car It drove well and only had one issue, we took it for a 30mile drive. On return experienced an issue when we were about 1 mile from home, we could only select 1 gear, crawler or emergency first, so proceeded home at 10 - 15mph Some people got annoyed with the speed including 1 car which overtook on double white lines and was then pulled by the unmarked police car that was behind him. So back to the car, judging by the state of the clutch and its extreme biting point, I'm guessing that this is the fault. When attempting to select other gears it sounded like I wasn't using the clutch... Which leads me to beleive that's the issue. Going to get a new one ordered soon otherwise was a very pleasant drive, lots of attention from the general public and a few classic cars I passed on route. Its been almost 2 years since I had "the nod" from a passing enthusiast. All in all very happy with it... But not looking forward to ny first clutch change. Thanks for reading

Been watching this resurection with interest. Great to see it finally hit the road again.
Would be worth checking over the clutch hydraulics before pulling gearbox/engine out in case that is the issue. Just look underneath to see if the release arm is moving a reasonable amount as someone else presses the pedal.
If you do need to change the clutch then an alignment tool only needs to be a shaft that fits into the crank spigot with a larger diameter section that matches the hole in the clutch plate. I've always successfully done it by eye but you can wrap tape round a smaller shaft to get the right diameters. Just tighten the clutch cover enough to allow the friction to keep the plate in place while you centralise it. Then tighten the cover bolts fully, each one a bit at a time to keep it even all round.

you can make a tool with two sockets and a bolt. find one socket the diameter of the shaft and another the diameter of the spline - bolt them together and bob's your uncle

Thanks Seth, definitely a good point, Ive taken a look and think that it is in working order, I'm not sure how much it should move so took a video... quite possibly my most random video upload... Some good advice on the clutch fitting, I haven't attempted a clutch before but keen to learn Thanks also to jpsmit for suggestions

It seemed the right place to go on a warm afternoon I have another video I'll post later I'm managed to take another look last night and have concluded that ita probably not the clutch (although its probably on its way out) with help from a friend when moving the gear lever the linkage under the bonnet is catching on something (possibly steering box?) it was quite dark, but will take a better look one evening this week. As promised photos of the issue, I took then inspection cover off... It was obvious very quickly what had gone wrong... Other end looks like this... and the broken piece... Luckily the cable had a good length, so we threaded it through a little more for the time being and tightened the clamp... attempted to drive it and found that the gears still weren't right, although this time is definataly just the adjustment. Any ideas what this bit might be called... and where i could get one? Thanks for reading

Gear selector cable? Speedy Spares are supposed to be pretty good for older Rootes parts

I have no idea what you need to look for, unfortunately, but I was distracted by that little button on the floor. Foot operated washer pump?

Aha! Glad it doesn't appear to be the clutch at fault. It might be worth giving these guys a shout about that selector cable. www.speedograph-richfield.com/But if you've got enough cable there anyway it should last a while yet , if you make sure it is lubricated and that the levers/pivots each end are as free moving as they should be.

I've never owned a Minx, but I'd guess that's the headlight dip switch. Pretty much all cars of that era seemed to have them down there. There's great fun to be had stamping around blindly trying to find the dipswitch when it's buried in moth-eaten carpet
