Hi there, I am about to start customising my 65 cadillac sedan "post" deville, and am looking for help with preparing the body work for re-spray into matt black. There's a few bubbles here and there, may need one small area at front of bonnet cut out and a piece welded back on, some chrome to remove/shave, otherwise in very good condition. I am based north of Leeds in case there are any fellow enthusiasts looking to get out of the house for some evening / weekend beer tokens Paul Attachments:

I'd be happy to help but only on the proviso that you don't matt black it lol.

thats a lovely looking car. If you go into the useful threads archive and FAQ bit theres a big long post all about prepping and painting cars. Its rather good, even if I say so myself...
I'm also going to go with "not another matt black old yank" though. That red colour looks great. Maybe remove the vinyl top and flake the roof and lace panel the sides...

Black the roof, lower it more. Done. That's a lovely red colour, and a gorgeous car.

many thanks for your comments - so maybe not matt black then?! I was aiming for the attached. the paint isnt bad, but there are some bubbles in areas that will need cutting and welding. Thats where I need help, and while I figure out what colour to go with... Other option was metalic black and metallic burgandy roof - saw one in San Diego, looked class. The roof is a matt white - not vinal, looks like someone sprayed to get the matt white effect but needs a tidy up if I keep. Was going to go matt black all round, leave the roof matt white, leave door shuts burgandy to match the white/burgandy interior. It's lowered 3" all round, but want to go lower at the rear. Front cant go lower as ride height is on its limit with sump height, exhausts etc. I want to fit air bags, but that's another story... if anyone experience can help with the body prep, would be appreciated. oh and needs some weathering strips too. Cheers Paul Attachments:

This is what I saw - can't tell if it's flat or a very metallic charcoal black. Does look good with big white walls. Attachments:

Have you got access to spray gear?

No I havent. A mate of mine does Chipsaway near me, so more of a dab hand with a spray gun that I ever will, but it's no small task on a 6m long car. It's getting the heat right for paint drying also, and a clean environment. If I can get the body work prep'd, I can work out the spraying - whether to try in my garage or take it somewhere good.

btw thanks surprisingskoda for the pics - the burgandy/black colour combo works well on all years, thanks for pointing that out!! I hate matt-chav-black cars, but I havent seen a matt black cadillac in the UK with matt white roof. I saw one on san diego cadillac kings www.cadillackingscarclub.com/ and it looked great.

It does indeed. To be perfectly honest, the only reason I didn't put a picture up to say "look how awful matt black Caddys look" is because every matt black Caddy I could find looked awesome!
It's your ride - do it your way. I'm still gonna stop and stare. For me, I just think Cadillacs are too far 'above' a matt black paint-job, but don't let my opinion stop you from making a cool ride!

I know - I havent seen one and thought it looks bad, they've all made me stop and stare, but I have seen many an aston martin, range rover etc in matt and they look like a bag of wnk.
I think the point of doing the matt effect on a Cadillac (or a rat rod style) is to purposely play them down to suit their "old skool" genre, a bit more underground style. That doesnt work on an aston, or a fiat punto even.
